Local Amateur Golfer Progresses In Worldwide Audi Competition

Amateur golfer Paul Joyce, from Arrunden near Holmfirth, has qualified for an Audi quattro Cup UK Regional Final golf tournament this summer.

Joyce won the Sytner North Audi Qualifier staged at the Oulton Hall Golf Club today (13 April) with a score of 43-points in the Stableford rules matches.

Almost 50 amateur golfers contested the 18-hole, Sytner North Audi sponsored competition at the Oulton Hall GC, Rothwell Lane, Leeds. The top-6 finishers now pair up in an Audi Regional Final at the Slaley Hall Golf Club, Hexham near Newcastle-upon-Tyne, on 11 July.

The full list of golfers qualifying for the Regional Final from today’s event is:

1^st Paul Joyce (47), from Arrunden nr Holmfirth. 43-points

2^nd Adam Webster (21), from Hanging Heaton, Dewsbury. 39-points

3^rd Simon Edwards (35), from Thorpe on the Hill, Wakefield. 38-points

4^th John Morgan (65), from Oulton, Leeds. 37-points

5^th Richard James (61), from Wakefield. 36-points (18 back 9)

6^th John Barber (60), from Robin Hood, Wakefield. 36-points (18 back 9)

The one-day competition held on wednesday April 13th 2011 was supported by Huddersfield Audi (Leeds Road, Huddersfield), Bradford Audi (Canal Road, Bradford), Wakefield Audi (Calder Island, Wakefield), Leeds Audi (Apex Way, Leeds) & Harrogate Audi (Grimbald Crag Road, Knaresborough), and is one of over 30 Audi quattro Cup events being staged between April-July. Three Regional Finals are staged in July with 16 “pairs” then contesting the Audi quattro Cup UK Final at Bowood Golf & Country Club near Calne, Wiltshire (14-15 Sep).

Ultimately two “pairs” representing Great Britain compete in the Audi quattro Cup World Final staged at The Mission Hills Resort in China (7-11 Nov). The Audi quattro Cup, being staged for the 21^st year, is the world’s largest amateur golf competition with almost 80,000 players from over 50 countries expected to compete for a place in the week-long World Final.
