Audi S4 Avant

Unlike a conventional manual gearbox, the S tronic transmission is essentially two gearboxes, each with its own multi-plate clutch, combined in one unit.

The outer clutch controls the even-numbered gears and the inner the odd-numbered gears, and this arrangement enables each clutch to pre-select a gear so that it’s at your disposal in just 0.2 seconds when you change up or down.

A highly intelligent Mechatronic control unit constantly monitors activity and decides which gear is likely to be needed next, so if you’re accelerating in second gear, for example, third is automatically pre-selected by the outer clutch in anticipation, resulting in one of the fastest, most seamless shifts you’re ever likely to experience.

By losing two cylinders, you won’t lose out - V8 vs. V6

The last Audi S4 used to have a V8 engine but, by adding a supercharger to a new lightweight V6, you get increased performance, more torque and 27% better fuel efficiency.

Airbags

Adaptive technology improves on the original airbag concept significantly. In the event of a collision, the level of impact and the position of the seat are considered and the deployment force of the airbag is adjusted accordingly. Front and side airbags for both the driver and front passenger are available as standard across all S4 models.

Seat belts

If there’s a head-on collision, the three-point inertia reel seat belts tighten to strap you to your seat more securely, limiting excessive movement caused by momentum.

Audi Backguard head restraints

The Audi Backguard system is designed into the body of the seat and counteracts the dangers of whiplash injuries to the neck and head in the event of a rear-end collision.

Adaptive headlights show you the way

Optional adaptive lights swivel in the headlamp cluster. When turning, they follow the steering wheel and cast a wider angle of illumination so you can see round the bend more clearly at night.
