An innovative and efficient power plant

Supercharging technology makes the 3.0 litre V6 a compact power plant with a peak torque of 440 Nm – 90% of which is available between 2,200 and 5,900 rpm. With a very spontaneous response and an extraordinary power flow across the entire rev range, the six-cylinder unit gives you incredibly responsive driving.

From a standing start, it powers the Audi S5 Sportback from 0 to 62 mph in 5.4 seconds and still has abundant power reserves beyond this mark. The overall effect is exhilarating: just as you would expect of a model with the S badge.

S tronic: two clutches are better than one

Unlike a conventional manual gearbox, S tronic transmission has a twin multi-plate clutch. So if you’re accelerating in second gear, third would be automatically pre-selected, ready for the change – which happens virtually instantaneously, just like in a racing car.

A ride to suit you

Not all driving situations are the same. The optional Audi drive select changes handling and response at the touch of a button to suit how you want to drive. There are four modes:comfort, dynamic, auto and individual.

For long-distances, comfort adjusts your set-up to create a more relaxing ride. Dynamic changes the settings for a sportier driving experience, adjusting steering and throttle response. The auto mode adapts the system depending on the current driving situation while individual, which is available in conjunction with a Satellite Navigation system, allows you to configure the dynamics of the car to your own preferences depending on what special equipment is fitted.

Achieving the right balance

The S5 Sportback is built on Audi’s modular longitudinal platform. This innovative chassis enables the engine to mount behind the front axle instead of over it which helps to achieve a more even weight distribution between the front and rear wheels. The result is a car that corners with confidence and handles superbly.

Stay in lane

The optional Audi lane assist helps prevent you from drifting out of your chosen lane. A tiny image recognition camera watches the lane markings on either side. If you veer too far right or left, the system knows you’re in danger and vibrates the steering wheel to alert you. If you change lanes using your indicators, the system knows that’s safe and temporarily switches itself off.

Safe lane changing

The optional Audi side assist offers safe lane-changing even if there’s another vehicle in your blind spot. At speeds over 40mph, it monitors the area to the rear and sides of the car and detects whether the lane is occupied by another vehicle. If it is, LEDs on the corresponding door mirror warn you before you begin to pull out.
