Tiptronic

Always in the right gear at the right time

The 6-speed tiptronic transmission system is a form of automatic transmission available on Audi models with quattro permanent all-wheel-drive.

You can use either the wheel-mounted paddle shifts or a conventional gear shift to manually change gear. Driven in manual mode the Tiptronic, if left, will shift up just before maximum engine speed is reached.

Sports mode

All S6 models come with a standard ‘D’ (Drive) and ‘S’ (Sport) mode. In Sport mode, the technology ‘holds on’ to low gears for a more dynamic drive.

The benefits

Crisp, fast gear changes are a particular benefit, especially when down-shifting. Tiptronic also helps prevent unwanted upshifts when cornering.

Powerful V10 Engine

Goosebumps optional

FSI technology makes the V10 5.2 litre engine a compact and efficient power plant that develops a mighty 435PS. Its 540Nm of torque peaks at just 3,000rpm giving a very spontaneous response and an extraordinary power flow across the entire rev range, the V10 engine gives you totally responsive driving. Only when the limiter cuts in at a top speed of 155 mph is this mighty machine reined in.

From a standing start, it powers the Audi S6 Saloon from 0 to 62 mph in 5.2 seconds and still has abundant power reserves beyond this mark. The overall effect is exhilarating; just as you would expect of a model with the ‘S’ badge.

FSI: Petrol direct injection

With FSI technology, fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber in precisely measured quantities. The amount of fuel that is dispensed varies according to throttle position. This precise method reduces the amount of fuel 'lost' in the combustion process, greatly improving economy and reducing CO2 emissions. FSI also creates greater torque and increased power.
