A car such as the Q7 V12 needs special treatment to put its power to the road. Enter quattro, Audi’s renowned all-wheel-drive technology. With quattro, optimal drive delivery to each wheel is managed automatically and continuously, for superior handling and phenomenal grip – even in less than perfect driving conditions.

In 1980, the Audi quattro was the first permanent all-wheel drive production car. So while the technology is thoroughly tried and tested, it has also been enhanced and evolved ever since it was first introduced. Today, ultra-modern quattro technology is available on every Audi, right across the range.

Q7 V12 with quattro

The Q7 V12 offers the very latest version of quattro, featuring asymmetric/dynamic distribution of torque. Together with a rear biased 40/60 split in power distribution to the front and back wheels, this gives the Q7 V12 a sporty, rear-focused driving style that guarantees thrilling performance, maximum agility and a truly exhilarating driving experience.

How it works: the Self Locking Centre Differential

The Self Locking Centre Differential is at the heart of quattro® on models with the engine positioned longitudinally along the car’s centreline such as the Audi Q7 V12.

Operating entirely mechanically, it continuously reacts to road conditions and responds to any differences in the rotational speeds between the axles. This ensures more power is always transmitted to the wheels with a better grip.

Working in tandem, the Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) can act when needed to prevent the wheels from spinning. Excess power at one wheel is diverted to the other wheels that have more grip, maintaining traction in virtually every situation.

Asymmetric torque distribution

The latest version of new and enhanced generation of quattro features asymmetric and dynamic torque distribution with a 40/60 split, favouring the rear wheels, and it reacts to road conditions even more responsively.

As a result, steering, handling and grip are massively improved and the whole driving experience is made more satisfying than ever.

Latest generation electronic stability program

As well as allowing sportier driving on the road, the new generation of the ESP (version 8.1) in the Audi Q7 V12 features off road detection. This reprograms the ESP system, the traction control and anti-lock braking system so they adapt to the specific driving conditions encountered in off-road terrain, such as snow, gravel or mud. You’ll get good traction in all manner of conditions, the pleasure of a sporty driving style and assured handling – even on difficult surfaces.

Off-road capability

The Q7 is ready for anything. It is more than capable of climbing and descending steep roads and with its high ground clearance it can comfortably drive through shallow streams
