BMW Group Honoured With Four Awards at the Prestigious Auto Express New Car Awards 2010

For the second year in a row the BMW 3 Series has scooped the ‘Best Compact Executive Car’ and ‘Best Convertible’ awards from the UK’s biggest selling weekly motoring magazine, while the all new BMW 5 Series took home the accolade for ‘Best Executive Car’ and MINI was crowned ‘Best Premium Supermini’.

The Auto Express road test team said of the BMW 3 Series Saloon: “Which ever 3 Series you choose, you’ll get the same incredible depth of engineering, entertaining driving dynamics and hugely desirable kerbside appeal.  It all adds up to a superb package.”

The BMW 3 Series Convertible received equally high praise with the team commenting: “In this category, we’re looking for the strongest four-seat cabrio line-up on the market, and the BMW is a brilliant all-rounder.”

The new BMW 5 Series beat off competition from the 2008 Auto Express Car of the Year, the Jaguar XF, to take home the title of ‘Best Executive Car’.  The 5 Series was commended by the Auto Express team as a car that “appeals to the head . . . [and] also appeals to the heart.”

MINI stood its ground and firmly cemented its position as ‘Best Premium Supermini’ while the Auto Express team commented that “none [of its competitors] can match the all-round appeal of the Oxford-built hatchback.”

In addition to scooping four outright wins BMW Group products were also commended in two other categories. The BMW Z4 received special praise for its “eye-catching lines” and “gutsy engines” whilst the new BMW X5 was commended for its “mix of on-road agility and surprisingly eco-friendly credentials”.  

News of the awards comes after BMW picked up a communications award at the LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards, for consistently communicating the benefits of low carbon choices through the advertising of BMW EfficientDynamics technology.   The BMW 3 Series 320d EfficientDynamics has also been crowned top Executive Car in the What Car? Green Car Awards 2010.
