Sytner Group, the UK's largest retailer of prestige cars, have been awarded second place in the Sunday Times “Best Big Companies to Work For" Awards. This represents their best ever result and continues a remarkable trend that has seen them become the only UK company ever to achieve a top 5 position for six years in succession.
Leicester based Sytner have almost 6000 people across their 100 UK locations and the Sunday Times survey reflects the views of these employees - a record 79% of whom responded. This level of engagement is the highest of any of the entrants who include some of the biggest and best known retail, leisure and professional organisations in the country.
Enthusiasm for where the company is going is felt across the business and employees believe they have a positive future ahead of them at Sytner, which prides itself on promoting from within. “I came for a week's work experience and fell in love with the place" says Katie Shevlin, who started as a trainee service advisor and is now a marketing executive. “I am loving it …….. it's like a family" she said.
According to the Sunday Times, no other workforce believe they can contribute as much to the success of their business, feel as proud or as stimulated by their job as the team at Sytner which represents some of the world's leading brands, including BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Bentley, Land Rover, Porsche & Ferrari.
And the culture goes beyond getting the day to day job done too. The company actively encourages support for charities and staff even get a day off each year to volunteer for local good causes.
Employees told the Sunday Times that the company is run on strong values and is fun to work for. “If you are having fun you are more likely to work together as a team" said new company Managing Director, Darren Edwards. “It is that teamwork which ensured we had a record year in 2014 and it is what makes Sytner the best, most consistent, Big Company to work for in the UK".
