Guy Salmon Thames Ditton Say Farewell to a Very Old Friend!
Guy Salmon Says Goodbye to an Old Friend!
The 19th March 2009 was a very sad day for the staff at Guy Salmon Thames Ditton as they stood and watched an old friend disappear right in front of their eyes. The old friend being a fabulous Horse Chestnut Tree which had stood proudly on the forecourt longer than anyone can remember.
The Tree was estimated to be over 150 years old but sadly it was suffering from Horse Chestnut Leaf Blotch and Chestnut Leaf Miner. This is a disease spread by a moth which was commonplace on the continent but in 2002 the pest was discovered on Wimbledon common and has since spread throughout the South East. In addition to the damage caused by the moth the tree had bleeding cankers on its main stem which is more serious as this spreads under the bark and its branches can fracture easily which makes the tree unsafe and therefore had to be chopped down.
On a cheerier note Guy Salmon are delighted to announce that they will be planting a similar tree on its premises to take the place of their old friend and they will be sure to announce when the planting ceremony is to take place!
