About Us
One Name That Guarantees Excellence
Here are Guy Salmon Land Rover, we're proud of our company name and the reputation that is synonymous with it but where does the name 'Guy Salmon' come from and what does being 'part of the Sytner Group' really mean?
Our heritage has been built on our passion for cars and our unrivalled reputation fo putting our customers first.
From air-raid shelters to a global organisation!
The late Mr Guy Salmon began his career in the motor trade in 1934 when he opened his first dealership in Surbiton, Surrey selling used Rolls Royce and Bentley. In 1945, after the war Mr Salmon bought the site of the original Guy Salmon in Thames Ditton for just £10,000! The site had been a factory during the war so Mr Salmon converted the factory building into a showroom and the air-raid shelters into offices!
In the fifties Mr Salmon began his world famous rental business, specialising in prestige marques and it was at this stage his son joined him in business, opening premises in Marble Arch and Sloane Square. With Mr Salmon at the helm for so many years we have built a strong repuatation for service and reliability. Our philosophy has remained unchanged from the days when Mr Salmon was running the business himself - 'To provide each and every customer with the unrivalled care and attention they deserve'.
In 1998 the Guy Salmon businesses were acquired by the Sytner Group. Here again was a business set up by one man, Frank Sytner in the 1960's in Nottingham, offering excellent customer service and some unique and rather special cars. Sytner was initially dedicated to the BMW brand but after 1996 began a programme of careful expansion, hence the purchase of the Guy Salmon businesses. Since that time, the Sytner Group has continued to go from strength to strength. In February 2002 American automotive giant Penske Auto Group (formerly UnitedAuto Group) bought the Sytner Group and continued to support it's long term plan for expansion. One of the more recent acquisitions took place in 2006 when Sytner purchased the William Jacks Group Plc adding, amongst many other franchises, four more Land Rover dealerships to the Guy Salmon brand, now totalling twelve located across the country.
