Guy Salmon Land Rover Stratford - Chipping Norton Lido - Auction of Promise
The Man with the golden gavel
The name is Clarkson, Jeremy Clarkson... and as the 2009 Auction of Promise's theme was James Bond, a high paced thrilling evening on 3rd July 2009 was had by all when they were shaken and stirred all the way by the brilliant auctioneering of the BBC2's 'Top Gear' presenter.
Thanks to an amazing haul of 85 lots the sixth Auction of Promise raised a total of £14,700, a sum that should see the Chipping Norton Lido remain open for at least another 12 months.
To support the event Guy Salmon Stratford donated an Off Road Experience along with a Range Rover for the day! This lot raised £350!
Chipping Norton's open-air swimming pool was opened in 1970, and has provided a valuable leisure resource to the people of the town for nearly 40 years. in 2002, the Lido was threatened with closure. In 2003, the KOPO (Keep Our Pool Open) campaign successfully lobbied the council which agreed to a one-year reprieve.
Today, 6 years later, and thanks to the hard work of many of its volunteers, Chipping Norton Lido still can be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
