The Lexus IS

A strong build for a dynamic and exciting driving experience

Lexus' IS saloon has been engineered to make you feel in complete control on the road, combining a strong core with cutting-edge technology and an ergonomic cabin. Pure excitement is therefore enjoyed at the wheel, and the vehicle returns satisfying economy to impress even further.

Exterior design features

This sleek four-door embodies the manufacturer's style and luxury – two traits for which the brand is now renowned. Below a contoured bonnet sits a spindle grille, accompanied on the front by fog lights as standard. Jagged headlamps add to the car's aggressive looks, with neat creases in the bodywork stretching from the front to the striking tailgate. Sporty performance is delivered from the IS, and features including a twin rear exhaust system and standard 16-inch alloy wheels hint at the vehicle's potential. Upgrading to the F SPORT model dresses the exterior with 18-inch alloys, a unique grille, and LED fog lights for a bold and head-turning finish.

Interior design features

Settle inside and Lexus' quality craftsmanship is instantly recognised. Every surface has been crafted with meticulous attention to detail and premium materials, such as the leather steering wheel and sophisticated black inlays. Leather seats and wood inlays are possible additions to this comfortable and supportive environment, which has been shaped to enhance the drive through every corner and straight. Control of each function is quick and easy for the driver, while all passengers have ample space in which to relax. Adding practicality to the saloon's strengths is a 60/40 split folding rear bench, which opens the 480-litre boot to estate-like proportions.

Excellent connectivity is another highlight of the cabin, which the seven-inch Lexus Media Display enables. The system is operated by a rotary dial that allows you to command a six-speaker audio system, as well as devices linked via the USB port or AUX-in socket. Bluetooth® mobile phone and audio connectivity keep you fully engaged with the people that matter, and give you the option to stream music straight from your personal device. All of these standard systems can be complemented by a Lexus Premium Navigation system with DAB tuner, DVD player and connected services, for the ultimate in on-board infotainment.

Two versions of the IS are available today - the IS 250 and the IS 300h. The petrol-driven 250 produces 205bhp at its peak and accelerates from 0-60mph in around eight seconds. A Drive Mode Select dial gives you the option to choose from three separate vehicle set-ups of Eco, Normal and Sport, which adjust performance to your preferred output.

The carmaker's renowned hybrid technology makes its way into the 300h, where a petrol/electric powertrain has been fitted. The unit marries with an Electronic Continuously Variable Transmission to emit a superb 99g/km of CO2 and return up to 65.7mpg combined.

More About Hybrid

Since its introduction in 2006, Lexus owners have enjoyed premium levels of comfort and refinement twinned with low running costs and excellent fuel economy thanks to Lexus Hybrid Drive technology.

But how does this highly beneficial hybrid technology work in practice?

To help you to have a better understanding of the technology in a Lexus hybrid vehicle, our video explains clearly what Lexus Hybrid Drive is, how it works, and how it brings benefits to the environment and your wallet. The Lexus Hybrid Drive is available in all Lexus IS models.

This efficient performance is complemented by the peace of mind that you're well protected inside the IS. Active systems of Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM), Traction Control (TRC) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) all work together to keep the car stable and prevent accidents. However, if you are unlucky enough that one should occur, the strong passenger cell and eight airbags will shield you and your passengers from the impact.
