Senior Technician at Mercedes-Benz of Bedford Set to Participate in Marathon For Local Charity
Mercedes-Benz of Bedford is delighted to confirm officially that Dan Baverstock, a Senior Technician at the dealership, is making his final preparations for the London Marathon on 17 th April 2011.
Dan has generously decided to run and raise funds for The Bedford Macmillan Primrose Unit, the dealership’s chosen charity again for 2011.
Dan's efforts are part of an initiative from Mercedes-Benz of Bedford, who are aiming to match the amount raised over the past two years of £10,900 for The Bedford Primrose Macmillan Unit who are working with Cranfield University undertaking some potentially ground breaking breast cancer research on behalf of the Macmillan unit.
Whilst the number of women suffering from breast cancer has increased over the past 25 years, the chances of cure have greatly improved. However, the “triple negative” group are hard to treat because they do not benefit from hormone therapies or Herceptin. This project is trying to find out whether these tumours have other targets or proteins which may be sensitive to the male hormone androgen. If a pattern is found, this information will help direct future research into new drug strategies.
Please stay tuned for updates on Dan's progress
