Mercedes-Benz prepares for electric vehicle use
News brought to you by Sytner Group, specialists in new Mercedes-Benz and the UK's leading retailer of prestige vehicles.
Mercedes-Benz and smart are preparing for the widespread use of electric vehicles (EVs) in the UK by installing recharging points.
Some 20 Elektrobay units have already been fitted at dealerships throughout the country, with more planned for later this year.
They can be used by motorists taking part in the current smart fortwo electric drive trial and upcoming tests.
"Electric vehicles will form an increasingly important part of our product development plans, and it is crucial that we put in place a recharging infrastructure to help our dealers and customers join the zero-emission revolution," commented Dermot Kelly, managing director of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
The popularity of EVs will increase, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has said, with motorists in urban markets most likely to turn to the new technology.
To aid the move to low-carbon transport, the body has called on the government to introduce incentives such as tax breaks and improve the infrastructure.
