Three cheers for Mercedes-Benz of Newbury
There was plenty to celebrate amongst the ‘stars’ at Mercedes-Benz of Newbury this week, especially for the local Mary Hare School for deaf children.
The London Road retailer played host to a special awards ceremony, where for once it wasn’t the cars bearing the famous three-pointed star that stole the limelight but its members of staff.
Service Team Manager Paul Green scooped the top accolade, the 2010 Customer Cool Award, which was voted for by colleagues for acts of impressive customer service. He won a weekend for two at the Summer Lodge five-star country spa hotel in Dorset for his efforts.
Paul was also presented with the Customer Service Award for the After Sales Department, with Sales Executive Matthew Stanworth winning the equivalent honour for the sales team. Rob James collected the Top Sales Executive prize for selling 111 cars during 2010, Danny Peters was chosen as the Top Technician and James Hill received the Team Player Award for his pivotal role as Progressor that links the Sales and After Sales operations.
But one of the most important presentations of the evening came when Mercedes-Benz of Newbury handed over its latest donation to the Mary Hare School, the retailer’s chosen charity. The £410 was raised from winnings generated by a staff night out at the greyhounds and will be put towards the school’s participation in the World Cheerleading Championships in Disneyland, Florida, in April. Cheerleading is an good activity for helping with speech, confidence-building and self-esteem and the ‘Mary Hare Firecrackers’ are one of two special school teams that have been invited to attend the event.
“2010 was a fantastic year for the business and I wanted to mark this fact by doing something that recognised the efforts of the whole team,” said Dealer Principal Anthony Williamson. “The event proved to be a great success and a lot of fun with a couple of spoof awards thrown in and will now be held every year.
“Presenting our latest cheque to representatives from Mary Hare School capped a memorable evening and we look forward to raising more money for them during the course of 2011.”
