She’s featured in all of the major fashion titles and has walked the catwalk for some of the industry’s biggest names. But what British model Daisy Lowe really loves is getting behind the wheel of her Mercedes-Benz SL 350.
We ask what it is about this model that appeals so much?
“It’s beautiful, chic, sexy and fast,” she exclaims, “I love it!”
Lowe tells us what makes a trip in her SL complete. Five items in the glove box – lip balm, hand cream, wet wipes, sunglasses and Werther’s Originals – and one dream passenger, Jimi Hendrix.
Lowe describes her personal style as, “European, chic and creative” and believes that British style is different from the rest of the world. She remarks: “We’re not afraid to be different, push the boundaries with our individuality but we still love beauty. We are just a bit rougher around the edges.”
So as London Fashion Week closes the doors on its AW15 collection, we ask Lowe what makes the world’s most prestigious fashion showcase so unique: “It’s so creative,” she comments, “designers are nurtured here to be truly individual.”
As for her favourite show, Lowe adds: “I always love the Erdem show because, it’s so immersive and the Giles show this season was incredible. I love that gothic monochrome look.” And Lowe’s top tip for a new talent to keep an eye on this season is Ashley Williams: “She’s a great up and coming British designer.”
With her wealth of experience, what is Lowe’s advice for any aspiring fashion models? “Stay true to yourself. Be kind to yourself and make sure you enjoy the ride.”
For Lowe, creativity isn’t just restricted to fashion. Her cookbook, ‘Sweetness and Light’ contains recipes for healthy cakes and puddings; we ask her do you feel that the fashion world is too pre-occupied with ‘size-zero’ models?
“In an ideal world, it would be lovely for the fashion world to honour beauty in all shapes and forms”, she admits.
From food to Formula One – we ask Lowe if her passion for fast cars extends to the exciting world of Formula One?
Lowe replies: “I’ve never been to a Formula One race, but I’d love to go! It’s always been a dream of mine to watch a race live at a circuit, to experience the noise and the atmosphere.”
