Mercedes-Benz of Weston-super-Mare support charity bike ride

Mercedes-Benz of Weston-super-Mare support is 'ride on' with charity cyclists

A team of cyclists will look extremely ‘neat’ upon the seat of a bicycle made for two when they embark on a 1,500-kilometre ride for charity this week, thanks to Mercedes-Benz of Weston-super-Mare.

The Bridge Road retailer has kitted out members of the Bromham Wednesday Club for the sponsored tandem bike ride that they will be making between Barcelona and their Wiltshire village in aid of CLIC Sargent. They hope that their efforts will raise between £10,000 and £15,000 for the children’s cancer charity.

The 10 riders, who will take it in turns in the saddle, have been provided with a cycling top and t-shirt by Mercedes-Benz of Weston-super-Mare to wear during the trip. The party will start their pedalling from the famous Nou Camp stadium in Barcelona on Monday (18th April) and finish a week later at the less illustrious location of New Road, the home of Bromham FC.

The Bromham Wednesday Club has been meeting socially on the first Wednesday every month since 1981 and over the years have raised thousands of pounds for both national and local charities.

“We’ve undertaken several bike rides over the years, including from both Land’s End and John O’Groats to Bromham, but when we began discussing this latest venture about a year ago someone came up with the bright idea of starting out from somewhere beginning with the letter ‘B’,” explained Vice-Chairman Craig Dalby.

“Nobody studied the map when we decided on Barcelona, so riding through the Pyrenees is going to be a real challenge as it is extremely hard pedalling the tandem uphill,” he added. “I’m sure we will be wishing we were travelling in a luxury Mercedes-Benz at this point but, no matter how tired we are, we will at least look the part in the kit that Mercedes-Benz of Weston-super-Mare has kindly provided.”

A former resident of Bromham before taking up his role as Sales Manager at Mercedes-Benz of Weston-super-Mare, Paul Simpson wished the Bromham Wednesday Club riders every success. “Whilst Mercedes-Benz of Weston-super-Mare is usually associated with four-wheeled transport rather than two, we are delighted to support the Bromham Wednesday Club and their efforts to support such a worthwhile cause,” said Paul.
