MINI Electric Owners

Meet Nick Warner and find out why he loves his MINI Electric.

A lot of MINI Electric is what you know and love about the MINI Hatch already. Its iconic design and legendary responsive handling. The innovative tech. The ability to customise it to your taste (did we mention the six handsome colour options available?). But the new fully electric motor takes things to a whole new level. Don't just take our word for it... find out what MINI Electric owner Nick thinks:

How long have you owned your MINI Electric?
I've had my MINI Electric since the very beginning of 2021.

Which Level are you currently driving?
It's a Level 2 pre-facelift.

Have you owned or driven any other MINI models before?
My previous car was a supercharged petrol 2006 Mini Cooper S, which I also loved and enjoyed driving, but the Electric is so much more fun. When I was younger I also had an original Austin Mini Clubman.

What’s your favourite thing about the MINI Electric?
There are so many good things about the MINI Electric, but it definitely has to be about the fun factor and the instant torque available!

Which colour is your favourite?
I liked enigmatic black, but unfortunately it wasn't available on Level 2 models. Instead I chose white silver and created a monochromatic look with a black roof and the grey detailing together with the restrained yellow highlights to denote electric.

What is your favourite feature of your MINI?
The regenerative braking is brilliant, meaning you can drive with one foot and save lots of energy. It's very intuitive.

What is your biggest MINI Adventure?
Last May, as a sort of challenge, I did a road trip all the way (from Windsor) to Oban in Scotland and back using the back roads through the Peak District, Pennines and the Southern Uplands. I enjoyed the superb scenery and the more involved drive over the windy A and B roads. Next I'd like to do the North Coast 500.

How does the MINI Electric suit your lifestyle?
It's perfect for my mainly short trips and slightly further afield. I also do longer day trips but I don't worry about the range as charging 'downroute' on a trip is so easy with good availability of rapid chargers these days. I've adapted my lifestyle to enjoy the fun and other benefits of owning a MINI Electric! I have to park my MINI on the street, but even so, the availability of destination chargers locally has meant it's not been an issue.

How do you find the charging aspect of the MINI Electric?
There is a lot to learn about charging and you should do your research before buying. You do need to have a plan when going on a longer trip on where to charge and aim to use the more reliable charging networks. Also, don't leave it until you're low on charge before charging, in the unlikely event of having problems. Make sure you have all the apps you need loaded onto your mobile and finally don't be put off charging 'in the wild' using public chargers.

What would you say to others considering making the switch to go electric?
Do it!! You will not regret it. Not only is it so much better for the planet, it's so much more fun and for the moment at least, really good value! Don't forget that small is beautiful, and a smaller MINI will have a much lower environmental impact than a bulky and boring SUV. I'm never returning to fossil fuels and the earlier you can make the transition the better it will be!

ABOUT NICK:

I bought my white silver Level 2 Electric called Alia in 2021 from the fantastic team at Sytner Slough. As I am passionate about electric vehicles and particularly the MINI, I decided to set up an Instagram account @my.minielectric.journey to document and share the first 13,000 miles of life with my MINI and all my travels and experiences.

There has certainly been a lot to learn and I’ve had to make some changes to my lifestyle too, but that’s definitely been part of the fun and not something to be scared of. I wanted to share this and to enthuse people at the same time and to help them understand how owning an electric car works in more detail.

In September 2021, Sytner MINI kindly sponsored me to take part in the very first London to Brighton Electric Vehicle endurance rally and I was the only MINI in attendance; as a result we had a fair bit of attention afterwards when parked on Madeira Drive!

I learnt to drive in an ‘original’ MINI Clubman and then later on graduated to a supercharged MINI Cooper S before switching to the Electric version. I am really keen to see how MINI develops as an electric brand fit for a greener low carbon world.

WHY NOT MAKE THE SWITCH TO MINI ELECTRIC?

FEELS LIKE ELECTRIC, LOOKS LIKE MINI.

A lot of MINI Electric is what you know and love about the MINI Hatch already. Its iconic design and legendary responsive handling. The innovative tech. The ability to customise it to your taste (did we mention the six handsome colour options available?). But the new fully electric motor takes things to a whole new level.

Although based on the same body shell as the smallest of the MINI range, the MINI Electric comes with a number of specific differences. With the unique MINI Electric logo appearing on the side scuttles, tailgate and front grille and the 17" MINI Electric Corona Spoke alloys, you'll be sure to turn heads.
