Since its conception in 2003, the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship has quickly become one of the most successful single marque GT championships in the UK. This year racing returns once again but sees the introduction of the new 460bhp ‘type 991’ 911 GT3 Cup. As with previous seasons, all drivers receive backing from the Porsche factory and stand a real of chance of moving through the GT or Endurance racing ranks.
Ahead of the 2015 Porsche Carrera Cup GB season, Porsche have confirmed the official calendar of race dates and locations; one large highlight being a two day visit to the prestigious Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium.
The Porsche Carrera GB Championship takes place over eight weekends; seven of which will support the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). The BTCC has long been a staple part of British motorsport and consistently attracts around 30,000 people to each race. This attendance of around 370,000 spectators a season is supplemented by live coverage on ITV4; with broadcasts reaching around 20m viewers every year.
This year, the Porsche Carrera GB Championship will also head to Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium to support the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps World Endurance Race - in which the Porsche factory team shall be racing their 919 Hybrid LMP1 car. The move to include this race weekend as an official round of the Carrera GB Championship helps to show the strong connection between the domestic championship and Porsche’s International Porsche Motorsport programme.
