Binner completes the Inca Trail for Velindre!
On 28th September 2010, Amanda Binner-Vaughan (Binner), Centre Principal at Toyota World Newport embarked on the world famous Inca Trail.
The Inca Trail is by far the most famous trek in South America and is rated by many to be in the top 5 treks in the world. Over 26 miles (43km) it manages to combine beautiful mountain scenery, lush cloud-forest, subtropical jungle and, of course, a stunning mix of Inca paving stones, ruins and tunnels. The final destination of the trail just cannot be beaten: Machu Picchu, the mysterious "Lost City of the Incas".
Upon her return Binner commented "The trail was very difficult both physically and mentally and at our highest we climbed to 4,800m (15,748ft). The group I was with were an inspiration, most had lost friends or relatives very close to them and were doing their bit to raise money for their charity. The group raised over £200K for the various charities!"
Binner's chosen charity was Velindre Cancer Hospital, Cardiff. Why Velindre? Binner's father, Tony, sadly lost his battle with cancer and passed away 9 years ago at the age of 59. The care he recieved from Velindre was faultless and the support they provided to the family after was extraordinary. In light of this Binner was keen to give something back.
Binner would like to thank everybody who sponsored her, helping her to raise over £4,000 for Velindre.
