Could Toyota Prius sales leap during 2010?
News brought to you by Sytner Group, specialists in new Toyotas and the UK's leading retailer of prestige vehicles.
Sales of electric vehicles, such as the Toyota Prius, are set to leap during the rest of 2010, a new report has suggested.
Figures published by UK-based consultancy JD Power show that global sales are set to reach 940,000, up from 732,000 in 2009, Reuters has reported.
It added that the total number of electric cars sold in 2015 will actually reach 15 million, with the trend being driven by people's anxieties about oil supply, fuel costs and the environment.
A total of 98 per cent of these sales will be hybrid vehicles such as new or used Toyota Prius cars, the study suggested.
The consultancy stated: "The plug-in Nissan Leaf and the Tesla Roadster have a driving range of 100 miles to 250 miles, depending on the size of the battery, whereas a [hybrid] Toyota Prius can go 600 miles."
Dr Ben Lane, speaking on behalf of whatgreencar.com, recently claimed that the UK will need a strong government signal before those looking for new specialist cars will turn to fully-electric vehicles.
