Volkswagen has revealed the revised Golf - the first compact car to feature Gesture Control along with other premium segment technologies. The recently revised Golf features new engines, enhanced design and new assistance systems.
The 2017 Golf is powered by an enhanced EA211 TSI engine family. The first is a new turbocharged petrol engine, the 1.5 TSI Evo, offers a 150 PS four-cylinder turbo with Active Cylinder Technology (ACT). This will be followed by a BlueMotion version producing 130 PS. Volkswagen has also boosted the performance of the Golf GTI engine to 230 PS (245 PS for the GTI Performance) and a new 7-speed DSG (dual clutch gearbox) will gradually replace the 6-speed DSG as a high-efficiency gearbox for the Golf. The 1.5 TSI Evo with 130 PS offers an extended coasting function when the engine is deactivated – completely shutting down the TSI when the driver releases the accelerator.
Design modifications include new bumpers at the front and rear, new halogen headlights with LED daytime running lights, new full LED headlights instead of xenon headlights, new front wings, new full LED tail lights as well as new wheels and colours.
Another important focus of this 2017 model year is a completely new generation of infotainment systems. The range of online services and apps is also growing. The Car-Net App-Connect consists of Apple CarPlay, Mirror Link and Android Auto, enabling the use of your phone through the touch sensitive display screen, which can also display your apps. The new infotainment system also provides Car-Net guide and inform, which allows the user to detect online traffic information, up to the minute weather information, the location of the nearest petrol station and nearby car parking spaces. The new VW Golf will also include wireless charging on specific phone models.
This latest update to the VW Golf sets a new standard for assistance systems in the compact class. The car offers technologies such as City Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring function, as VOLKSWAGEN continues to take further steps towards the eradication of accidents. The new Traffic Jam Assist offers partially automated driving at speeds of up to 60km. This innovative system uses adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning to monitor the surrounding area and automatically apply the accelerator or braking system when necessary.
Active Info Display
Thanks to the optional Active Info Display, you can enjoy the advantages of an instrument cluster with a high resolution 31 cm (12.3-inch) colour display.
With various information profiles, you can decide which specific data are displayed in the instrument cluster in addition to the usual gauges such as the rev counter, speedometer and odometer. You can select this information profile quickly and easily using the optional multifunctional steering wheel.
In the Discover Navigation Infotainment system, you can decide whether you would like to see the navigation map in the Active Info Display, or have the classic view on the system display. With Discover Navigation Pro, both display options are available simultaneously.
Small gestures can achieve a lot in everyday life, but also when it comes to gesture control in your car. This function makes it even more convenient to operate the optional Discover Navigation Pro system.
It enables you to easily move around in the main menu and various submenus using a right-to-left swipe gesture to switch pages. For example, with just a single hand movement, you can switch radio station, songs, or photos. For each gesture, you use a colour code on the user interfact to see where gesture control works and where it doesnt - after all, the traditional control options are of course also available for use at any time.
Beautifully convenient: the optional 'Advanced' mobile phone interface not only had a hands-free system, but also an wireless charging function.
The additional inductive connection on the external aerial, and USB data and charging cable in the centre armrest, mean that phone calls in the New Golf are particularly convenient.
What's truly special about this is that the inductive aerial connection, combined with a first-rate microphone in the headliner and audio output via the internal loudspeaker, guarantee outstanding voice quality. An additional cradle is no longer needed.
Be entertained en route with Composition Media featuring DAB and a 8" touchscreen as standard.
Car-Net connects the new Golf with the internet. Now a lot of things are possible: use your smartphone with the touchscreen on board, bypass traffic jams and find the cheapest fuel station with Guide and Inform.
Car-Net App-Connect includes three innovative technological functions which you can use to display your smartphone apps on the touchscreen of your Infotainment system – MirrorLink™, Android Auto™ from Google, and Apple CarPlay™.
