Compact MPV wins five-star rating in rigorous assessment
The new Touran has come top of the ‘Compact MPV’ category in the European New Car Assessment Programme’s (Euro NCAP) crash safety tests.
The MPV passed the demanding Euro NCAP crash tests in September 2015, and received the highest rating of five stars. The car was tested in four areas: occupant protection for children and adults, pedestrian protection and driver assistance systems.
Euro NCAP toughened the assessment last year by introducing an additional head-on collision test to assess occupant safety when the entire front of the vehicle collides head-on with a solid object.
The Touran showed it is well equipped to cope, thanks to its optimised body structure and standard systems such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ABS and Automatic Post-Collision Braking.
The Pre-Crash proactive occupant protection system also plays a role. It activates before a crash to minimise its severity by automatically tautening safety belts and closing windows if it senses the car is skidding. These actions help make sure that occupants are in the right place for airbags to have maximum effect.
