3 peaks, 2 charities, 1 goal...
Mercedes-Benz of Bristol 3 Peaks charity challenge
The background
Eleven intrepid staff from Mercedes-Benz of Bristol have decided to abandon the comfort of their Cribbs Causeway showroom to tackle the Three Peaks Challenge.
Whilst the event will provide everyone taking part with an individual challenge to complete this tough event, the real objective is to generate £15,000 in sponsorship, which will be split between St Peter’s Hospice and Bristol Children’s Hospital.
This fund-raiser forms part of the local community programme operated by our parent company, Sytner Group, to encourage its motor retailers to support good causes within the areas in which they operate.
The challenge
On the 2nd - 4th July, the Mercedes-Benz of Bristol team will be climbing Great Britain’s three highest mountains – Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales.
Whilst the logistics means that the event will take the whole weekend to complete and cover 1250 miles, the participants’ challenge is to climb to the top of all three peaks in just 24 hours – an arduous 40-kilometre trek that includes 2,984 metres of testing ascent and descent.
The charities
The proceeds from Mercedes-Benz of Bristol’s Three Peaks Challenge will be divided equally between St Peter’s Hospice and Bristol Children’s Hospital.
St Peter’s Hospice is Bristol’s only adult hospice caring for local people with incurable illnesses and the money raised will be used to improve the quality of life of patients while extending care and support to their families and loved ones.
Last year the Hospice cared for over 2,000 patients and supported over 6,000 family members, including children. However only 25 per cent of its annual funding is provided by the NHS, the rest is dependent on public generosity.
The Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC) provides a local service for Bristol Children and a referral service for specialist care for families across the South West and Nationally. Above & Beyond is the charity for the eight hospitals within University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, which includes the Bristol Childrens Hospital.
The charity funds projects which touch the lives of the thousands of people of all ages who are cared for and visit University Hospitals Bristol and its local community services each year.
Fundraising and donations to Above & Beyond make it possible to:
Enhance the patient, visitor and staff environment
Further medical knowledge through research
Fund state of the art equipment
Support staff development and training
