A message of reassurance to all Toyota Customers

  • The accelerator pedal issue is very rare
  • A comprehensive fix is available.

As you may have heard, in extremely rare cases there has been an issue with the accelerator pedal in certain Toyota models.

Customer safety is always the primary focus for Toyota and, understandably, never more so than now. Which is why, as a precaution, we are recalling every car that may develop this condition.

What is certain is that the chance of this issue occurring in your car is very small. There have been very few reported cases in the UK.

So, in the unlikely event of an issue, what are the symptoms? There is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may, in rare instances, appear sticky in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position. You may find the accelerator pedal increasingly hard to depress, or experience a rough or juddering feeling when pressing or releasing it.

Toyota and our retail network are committed to doing everything possible to solve this issue, and we deeply regret any concern this may have caused. Please be assured that this is a very rare condition and that we are committed to fixing every car that might be affected.

Looking after our customers is our number one priority.

Miguel Fonseca, Managing Director, Toyota (GB)
