The 4,458 mm (14.6 ft) long Audi A3 Saloon is the sporty notchback model in the world’s largest market segment: compact four-door cars. The exterior design combines the classic three-box concept with the dynamism of a coupe.
The interior of the sporty four-door features a light and clean design. The 425-litre (15.0 cu ft) cargo space (with quattro drive: 390 litres [13.8 cu ft]) can be expanded by folding down the rear seat backs. The optional trailer hitch swivels and electrically unlocks at the press of a button. Equipped with the 1.0 TFSI engine, the saloon has a curb weight of just 1,185 kg (2,612.5 lb).
Extraordinary power. Sleek lines. Bold looks. Everything about the S3 range suggests high performance – from the increased engine power output right down to the ‘S’ badge on the rear. With enhanced ‘S’ specific styling, as well as lower suspension, brake callipers with the S3 logo and full-LED headlights, this is every inch an S model. Even before you start the engine.
The S3 comes with the strengthened 2.0 TFSI engine with 228 kW (310 hp), and shares the same exterior design language with the other members of the S3 family. The S-specific twin-pipe exhaust system, which gives both of the two sets of oval exhaust pipes their impressive width. A distinctive roof-edge spoiler gives this five-door more contact with the road surface. LED headlights are standard for all versions; the red brake callipers on the 17-inch ventilated brake disks are optional.
The first Audi Saloon to bear the RS label as well as being the first to feature a transversely-mounted five-cylinder engine. The Singleframe is more sculpted than before. Its black gloss, three-dimensional honeycomb grill and the quattro logo on the sloping lower segment accentuate the vehicle’s dynamism. The newly designed blade in the bumper is particularly noticeable. It turns up at the ends, forming narrow, upright funnels at the same height as the side air inlets, which also feature the same honeycomb structure, making the front appear wider. The housing of the exterior mirrors on both RS models has a matte aluminium look.
The headlights stand out thanks to their jagged lower edge. They form a striking light graphic. LED units are standard and Audi also optionally offers precision-controlled Matrix LED headlights.Based on information from the camera mounted on the interior mirror, the control unit switches the LEDs on and off individually and can also dim them in 64 stages, as necessary. As a result, the Matrix LED headlights can produce several million light distribution variations.
