West London Audi held a special launch evening to introduce the all-new Audi R8 Spyder. Located at Audis flagship centre, the special night was hosted by Ray Campbell and his dedicated team of Audi Sport Specialists. Attendees not only got to see the new R8 Spyder for the first time, but also had the opportunity to look around the worlds first Audi Sport showroom.
Guests could enjoy amuse-bouche and champagne whilst browsing Audis impressive Sport range. Models that were featured include the awesome R8 LMS, 1999 Le Mans R8C and the legendary Audi Sport quattro S1 E2. We were also joined by the Bang & Olufsen team who had a demonstration area to showcase their fantastic technologies and latest products they have available.
The new 2016 Audi R8 Spyder has an aluminium and carbon fibre space frame body, with added strength within the A-pillars. The fully automatic roof features two tapering buttresses that extend back over the engine cover at the rear.
At 4426mm long, 1940mm wide and 1244mm tall, the new R8 Spyder is both shorter and wider than the previous R8 Spyder, but it continues to have the same 1650mm wheelbase as before.
Powered by the same mid-mounted naturally aspired 5.2 litre V10 petrol engine, it produces 532bhp. With a weight of 1612kg, this provides a power to weight ratio of 330bhp per tonne, whilst Torque peaks at 398lb ft.
All this power is channelled through a standard seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gear box, plus electro-hydraulically operated multi-plated clutch four-wheel-drive system with rear locking differential.
The R8 Spyder has a top speed of 198mph and 0-62mph in just 3.6sec, which is just 0.1sec and 3mph slower than the lighter R8 Coupe. Fuel saving features contribute to a 10% improvement official fuel economy of 24.1mpg.
