Welcome to the ALPINA GB Newsletter for Winter/Spring 2018.

2018 is going to be a great year for ALPINA. The fabulous ALPINA B5 (Saloon and Touring)and the new ALPINA D5S (saloon only) are now physical and with us in Nottingham, the home of ALPINA GB.

We have demonstrators for both vehicles and the first delighted customers took delivery of their new cars during December (for D5S) and late January for (B5).

If you would like to arrange a test drive in either car, don’t hesitate to contact me on garylott@sytner.co.uk. There is a review of both of these fabulous cars further down.

Hot off the press! - I’ve just been advised that the world premiere of the new BMW ALPINA XD3 will take place on 6th March at the Geneva motor show. The Bi-Turbo 3.0 litre straight six diesel engine produces 333hp and 700nm of torque. Accelerating from 0-60mph in just 4.9 seconds and onto a top speed (where conditions allow) of 158mph, making the new XD3 among the fastest in its segment.

The ALPINA XD3 will be included on the configurator shortly and orders are being taken from June. We anticipate that deliveries will commence early 2019. Pricing, and further information will be announced at Geneva.

The image of the ALPINA E21 B6 2.8 below, is an incredibly rare car and has recently been re-commissioned after in 12 years storage. Frank Sytner owned this car in 1982 and Sytner, then on Huntingdon Street in Nottingham, sold it in 1983 to Martin Drinkwater, who has kindly agreed for us to share the image below with you.

Martin has cherished the car for the ensuing 35 years and it is in original unrestored condition having covered just 28,000 miles. Now that the car is back on the road, Martin has promised to bring it along to some forthcoming events and register meeting, so watch this space for further updates.

Sytner Nottingham didn’t become the home of ALPINA GB until 1985, so this car could well have been instrumental in driving Frank’s passion for the brand – and the rest is history as they say!

As I write this it is snowing heavily, so roll on the Spring and some sunshine to warm the roads.

Happy ALPINA motoring!

The New ALPINA B5 and D5 S

Offering a unique combination of comfort, luxury and ultra-high performance, the B5 Bi-Turbo sets a new price point for entry into the 200mph club, while the Touring version is the world’s fastest estate.

Utilising the 608hp 4.4 first seen in the B7, the all-new B5 boasts all-wheel drive and rear-wheel steer for the first time. These additions substantially boost traction, agility and exploitability, allowing the traditional benefits of 5 Series-derived ALPINAs to be complemented by a lithe athleticism and all-weather security that that truly astonishes. Keen drivers can further up the ante via the optional Drexler limited slip differential and performance brakes complete with drilled discs, a more assertive pad compound and ALPINA-stamped hubs.

.

The D5 S wears the same 25kgs lighter forged alloy wheels and wind-tunnel developed aero kit as the B5, but swaps the V8 for a new super smooth 326 hp diesel offering nearly double the real-world tank range and a £19,000 lower equipment-adjusted list price. The rear-wheel steering and electro-mechanical anti-roll systems become options but standard equipment remains significantly improved over the previous-gen D5 with 20-way Comfort Seats, soft Nappa leather, LED headlights and Professional media and navigation becoming standard fit.

The result of thousands of hours of development at ALPINA’s R&D centre and on roads from Death Valley to the Arctic Circle, the new B5 and D5 S provide a combination of comfort, performance and driving pleasure we believe is unrivalled by any competitor – demonstrators for both are now on the road and we invite perspective owners to arrange a test drive at a time and place of their convenience.

In the meantime, TopGear and CarThrottle have captured the essentials rather nicely.

Looking to the future

With three new models, B5, D5S and XD3, 2018 is set to be a standout year in the history of ALPINA. As we’ve got a great story to tell, I’m delighted to advise that we’ll be at Goodwood Festival of Speed this year, so book your tickets for 12th to 15th July and come and visit us on stand 8. The ALPINA XD3 will be making its UK debut.

Later in the year there will be a number of after-hours preview events for the new B5 and D5 S at our Solihull, High Wycombe and Harold Wood dealers, while those wanting to test drive the finest cars in a setting to match we’ll be announcing a collaboration with our Sunningdale dealer in the coming months. Feel free to get in touch to register your interest for these events.

We also have two particularly exquisite examples of the 440hp / 660nm B3 S Touring, boasting accessible 190mph potential. Nothing else in the market delivers this unique blend of ultra-exclusivity, high performance and remarkable refinement in such an appealing and practical manner.

Following the success of last year’s offer, we again have a limited quantity of winter wheel and tyre sets available with substantial savings.
