Ahead of the new BMW 8 Series being launched later this year, BMW have unveiled the all-new BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe. Illustrating the very meaning of BMW’s letter ‘M’, the new Gran Coupe takes BMW to new levels of luxury.
Presenting a strong sense of presence, the aggressive looking BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe is the second demonstration that we’ve had of BMW’s new design language – the previous being the BMW Concept 8 Series. As such, you’ll find sharp lines, harsh angles and muscular panels all across the car to help accentuate its dynamic potential. The latest variation of BMW’s quintessential kidney grille has also been carried over from the Concept 8 Series; meaning that the larger kidney elements not broaden as they descend.
Whilst it may share elements with the incredibly elegant Concept 8 Series, this new M variant has a fair few design elements that set it aside. For starters, the entire stance of the vehicle has changed significantly; the entire car sitting lower on the road, wider track and flared wheel arches work to create an aggressive persona that fits the performance orientation that you would expect from one of BMW’s M cars.
That said, BMW say that Concept M8 Gran Coupe is more than just a performance car, to use their wording “it takes luxury out of its comfort zone”. To that end, there’s a feeling of elegance portrayed by that sweeping roofline and small ducktail spoiler that feels entirely juxtapose to all of the brute force and aggression. It’s a sensational mix that BMW have balanced perfectly.
Bringing a taste of modern-day motorsport to the Concept M8 Gran Coupe, BMW have opted to gift it with lights that use similar hexagonal technology to the new M8 GTE endurance racing car, whilst weight has been saved through the use of a carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof and various other CFRP elements.
No interior specifics have been outlined by BMW but, as this is a performance Gran Coupe that aims to revolutionise BMW luxury, you can expect to find exquisite materials and technology in the cabin that is similar to what was revealed with the Concept 8 Series. They also haven’t announced the chosen powertrain, performance statistics or technical setup specifics (such as chosen suspension, etc) but we can hopefully expect more should an M8 model go to production.
All-in-all the new BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe has certainly got us excited for the all-new BMW 8 Series and hopefully a performance variant later on down the line. What do you think of the new Concept M8 Gran Coupe? Let us know your thoughts on Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin.
