INTRODUCING THE 8.

Greeted with much excitement and anticipation, BMW have finally unveiled their all-new 8 Series Coupe at this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours. Sporting a stunning new design language and an award-winning V8 engine, it certainly seems that it has been worth the wait.

To start, let’s take a look at the beautiful new design language that the 8-Series introduces us to. Remaining similar to the 8-Series coupe and M8 concepts that we saw earlier this year, it sees the introduction of a larger signature kidney grille and slim new LED headlights that feature BMW Laserlight with Selective Beam.

Presenting a long and sleek silhouette, the 8-series’ sportiness can be felt through elements such as the wide arches and aggressive front bumper that have been developed alongside the M8 GTE racing car. Also developed in parallel with the racing car, BMW have implemented unseen elements such as a totally flat underside in order to ensure even better performance.

Capable of reaching 62mph from a standstill in just 3.7 seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph, the new range-topping BMW M850i is powered by BMW’s sensational 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8.

Producing 523hp and 553lb ft of torque, this fantastic power plant has been twinned with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive to ensure 8-Series benefits from maximum performance.

Alongside the range-topping M850i, BMW have also unveiled the BMW 840d xDrive Coupe that utilises a 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line diesel engine that produces 320hp and 501lb ft of torque. Allowing additional efficiency of 46.3mpg, this engine still manages to take the 840d Coupe from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds.

As well as the performance gained from these two brilliant beating hearts, automatic gearbox and xDrive technology, all 8-Series models receive active steering, roll stabilisation and a range of systems that assist the driver with both convenience and safety (such as active cruise control and hazard monitors) as standard.

On the interior, the 8-Series benefits from luxurious design that blends both technology and quality materials – exactly as you would expect from BMW’s new flagship model.

Sat inside the cabin, driver and passengers are treated to newly designed sports seats that have been developed with grand touring in mind; meaning all-electric adjustability, stunning Vernasca leather as standard and maximum lateral support for fast-cornering capability.

Equipment wise, the BMW 8-Series utilises the very latest version of BMW iDrive, BMW Head-Up Display as standard and the new BMW Live Cockpit display that turns the traditional speedometer and rev meter into a smartly presented fully digital cockpit.
