Guy Salmon began his career in the motor industry back in 1934 at the age of 20. His first Dealership was in Brighton Road, Surbiton, Surrey where he sold second hand prestige cars such as Rolls Royce and Bentley.
In 1945 after the war, Mr Salmon found the site of what still remains today as the original Guy Salmon Dealership in Thames Ditton, Surrey. When Mr Salmon bought the site (for just £10,000) it had been a factory producing powered mountings for gun turrets during the war. Mr Salmon turned the factory into a showroom and the air raid shelters into offices and from that point on, has gone from strength to strength.
Along with the Thames Ditton site, Mr Salmon also had a large successful Service facility in Teddington, Middlesex where he had fifteen technicians working full time on several prestige marques. It wasn’t until the mid-1960’s that Mr Salmon acquired the existing Service site on Kingston House Estate, Surbiton, Surrey, which had been the Head Office for a wood-working and furniture manufacturer named Gaze’s. Again Mr Salmon went into the construction business turning one kind of workshop into another.
Mr Salmon’s first dealings with Jaguar cars UK were back in 1946 when he bought his first Jaguar for £1,650 and much to Mr Salmon’s amusement sold it a year later for £2,010!
Great advances occurred in the early fifties when Mr Salmon acquired the Jaguar franchise from Pages of Epsom, Surrey and soon also became the top distributor for Jensen cars in the UK. During this time, Mr Salmon also began his world famous rental company, with premises at Marble Arch and Sloane Square in London. It was now that the business became a true “family affair” – with members of his family working for him at the Guy Salmon business’s around the country – a tradition that still holds strong in the company values today.
Over the years, the Dealership has grown and evolved as the Jaguar car has grown and evolved. We have been proud to present to our customers such classics as the Mark V, V11 and E-Type in the “swinging 60’s” through to the birth of the new “baby” Jaguar – X-Type in 2001. Jaguar's new extensive family is quickly expanding with the line up now including, XF, XJ, F-TYPE, XE & the most recent addition F-PACE.
We are proud to say that, with Guy Salmon at the helm for so many years, we have built a firm foundation and a high reputation for service and reliability. The philosophy has remained unchanged from the days when Mr Salmon was running the business himself – “to provide each and every customer with the unrivalled care and attention they deserve”.
Although we are no longer a family run business – having been bought by The Sytner Group in 1998 and even more recently The Sytner Group, bought by The United Auto Group of the United States, the name Guy Salmon is still…………………..“one name that guarantees excellence”.
