Reopening our Workshops Safely

Dear Customers,

Further to my message on March 23rd, I would like to update you on our plans to re-open our workshops.

On March 23rd the Government ordered all non-essential retail businesses in the UK to close as part of a national lockdown to halt the spread of coronavirus. As a consequence, our car showrooms have been closed to the public since this time.

Under lockdown, garages with workshops have always been allowed to operate. However, due to safety concerns and wishing to play our part in the national cause of: Stay Home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives, we have so far chosen to only operate a small number of our workshops to support key workers.

We believe however, that provided we can adhere to the Government’s strict social distancing measures, now is the time to begin re-opening our workshops for the benefit of all customers.

The safety and well-being of our customers and colleagues remains our number one priority, so to ensure this, we have put together a detailed plan to guide us through the re-opening process. A full copy of the plan is available here and I urge you to read through and digest the detail.

This plan includes numerous social distancing and enhanced hygiene measures, new operating processes and the widespread introduction of personal protective equipment to ensure everyone’s safety.

I’m pleased to tell you that all of the necessary dealership changes and employee training has now been completed, so we can begin to welcome back our service department customers safely. To help explain how we are ensuring the safety of our colleagues and customers when you next visit our workshop, we’ve put together a short video, which you can view here.

In order to support social distancing however, it is imperative that we limit the number of customers and colleagues in our dealerships at any one time. As such, our service departments will operate strictly on an appointment only basis, please contact your dealership to make a booking.

Whilst our sales showrooms will remain closed until the Government permits us to re-open them, by opening our workshops we will be able to re-start preparing new and used cars ready for collection for when the time is right.

I am also pleased to announce that customers can now purchase a used car using our recently introduced ‘buy online’ feature on the sytner.co.uk website. This feature enables you to secure a guaranteed part-exchange valuation, apply for finance and reserve a car, all without leaving the comfort of your home.

In addition, our dealership sales teams are now able to take enquiries and orders once again and as soon as we have been given Government permission to fully re-open our showrooms, we will quickly be able to arrange for customers to collect their new car from their dealership, or possibly arrange a home delivery. Due to logistics restrictions our delivery service will be subject to availability, so please contact your dealership for details.

Without doubt, this has been the most challenging period during the Group’s 50 years of being in business; we have had to adapt and reconfigure the way in which we operate to ensure your safety and I want to thank you for your understanding and continued support during this unsettling time.

Finally, my colleagues and I very much look forward to being able to welcome you back to one of our dealerships in the very near future and I wish you and your family the very best of health.

Update from our Chief Executive
Temporary closure of our showrooms

Dear Customers,

Like all businesses within the UK and indeed, worldwide, we are closely monitoring the impact that COVID-19 is having on our business, our colleagues, customers and business partners.

We are very much aware and respectful of the Government’s message that all UK citizens and businesses must play their part to protect the most vulnerable in our society and to ensure that the NHS has the ability to care for the inevitable, increased number of patients that will be affected by the virus in the coming days and weeks.

For these reasons, the Board of Directors have taken the decision to close all Sytner Group showrooms to customers from close of business tomorrow, Tuesday 24th March.

Our workshops will however remain open until work already booked in is complete and will then support the sales teams to prepare purchased cars for delivery to our customers.  Once this has been completed, our workshops will close to customers, with a number remaining open to support key workers.

We will also continue to support customers who wish to purchase cars, by launching a buy online option on our website. This will be live within the next few days and will allow you to obtain a part exchange valuation, apply for finance and have your car delivered, all without having to leave your home.

I would like to thank my fellow colleagues for their dedication over the last few weeks as we have together navigated our way through this challenge. They have all been amazing and I am immensely proud of what we have achieved.

Over the coming days, the Sytner team will work together, to care for our customers and look after each other’s well-being. This is a situation that we have not had to deal with before; we are entering uncharted territory and will be learning and adapting as we travel along this path.

Our teams will be working with our local communities to offer our support to frontline workers. We want to help ensure that keyworkers’ vehicles stay safely on the road and support where we can if they need help getting from place to place.

If you would like to follow our progress, we will use our social media pages to keep you updated on everything our teams are doing to support their communities.

We look forward to staying in touch and welcoming you back when we reopen.

Take care,

COVID-19 (coronavirus) - A message from our
Chief Executive

To our customers,

We would like to inform you of the actions that we have taken to ensure the well-being of our colleagues and customers, in response to the growing threat from coronavirus.

Shortly after the COVID-19 outbreak occurred in China, we began reviewing and implementing provisions as a part of our overall business continuity plan. This plan outlines specific steps Sytner Group has and continues to take to safeguard employees’ and customers’ health and well-being during a pandemic while ensuring the Company’s ability to maintain fundamental operations and continue providing essential services to our customers.

The plan includes:

  • The formation of a coronavirus Action Team who monitor and action UK Government and Public Health England guidance.
  • Ensuring employees receive regular briefings regarding new operating procedures aimed at protecting our colleagues, customers and the business
  • Restricting international travel and attendance by employees to industry meetings and conferences
  • Increasing the frequency of dealership cleaning and disinfecting surfaces such as doors, phones and desks
  • Increasing the deployment of antibacterial hand sanitisers and hand wipes within the business
  • Regular disinfection of cars’ handles, gear knobs and steering wheels
  • Introduction of a no hand shake policy across the Group
  • Installation of posters to reinforce good practice regarding hand-washing
  • Introducing software to enable remote working
  • The cessation of field based employees visiting multiple showrooms
  • Segregating contact centre operatives into smaller teams

The senior management team and Board of Directors of Sytner Group take the COVID-19 threat seriously and we are taking all reasonable measures to prepare for and mitigate the risk of COVID-19 to our team members, our customers and our business. To this aim, we ask that you inform us prior to your visit to let us know if you have been to any of the affected locations listed on the UK Government website, or if you have had to self-isolate due to potential exposure to the virus, so that we may discuss the best way in which to manage your requirements.

Thank you for your continued support of Sytner Group. We wish good health to all our customers, their colleagues and families.
