BMW Reach E-Mobility Milestone

BMW Reach e-Mobility Milestone with 500,000 Electrified Cars Sold

True to their word, the BMW Group has officially sold over 500,000 electrified vehicles worldwide before the end of 2019. The announcement came through a series of Tweets last night and culminated with Sebastian Makensen, BMW Group Senior Vice President Market Germany, handing over the keys to a very special BMW 330e to its future owner.

Reaching this e-mobility milestone has been very important to the BMW Group as it cements their position as an e-mobility industry leader and confirms that their range of electric and hybrid vehicles is exactly what customers currently desire.

BMW Reach E-Mobility Milestone

The BMW Group’s electrified range currently comprises of 12 vehicles – ranging from cars like the hybrid 3 Series to the all-electric BMW i3 – but is set to grow over the next few years; starting, next year, when the BMW X3 becomes the first BMW to offer four different drive train variants: diesel, petrol, plug-in hybrid and pure electric (in the form of the iX3). Following the iX3, BMW will welcome the BMW iNEXT and BMW i4 to their range.

Alongside BMW’s electrified expansion, MINI’s range will be joined by their debut all-electric vehicle in the form of the MINI Electric. Set to be a hit with MINI customers, the MINI Electric will blend lessons learned from the superb BMW i3 with the aesthetics and driving dynamics of the MINI Hatch.

Speaking of the milestone, Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, said:

"Half a million vehicles is the best proof: Our broad range of electrified vehicles is meeting exact customer needs. Now, we are stepping up the pace significantly: We aim to have one million electrified vehicles on the roads within two years. This is our contribution towards effective climate protection,"

As mentioned by Zipse, BMW were quick to outline their next milestone of having one million electrified BMW Group vehicles on the road by the end of 2022. This latest milestone sits within BMW’s overall goal of a quarter of all vehicles sold in Europe being electrified by 2021, a third by 2025 and half in 2030.

We’d like to congratulate the BMW Group on reaching their 500,000 milestone and look forward to seeing where they are in 2022. If you would like to learn more about BMW's current and future hybrid and all-electric range, simply click the button below!
