On Friday, the media team were lucky enough to be invited to the launch of Bentley’s beautiful new Bentley Continental GT at Bentley Leicester.
Welcomed into our stunning Bentley dealership in Leicester with champagne and canapés, guests were treated to a wonderful evening that celebrated the arrival of Bentley’s very important next generation Continental GT.
Two examples of Bentley’s exciting new car sat beneath silk sheets for the beginning of the evening – the silhouettes bringing excitement on conjecture to the crowds that surrounded them. Around each of the cars, guests could find large displays that showed various features and building techniques that had been employed on the new car.
After speeches from Sean Cook, Head of Business at Bentley Leicester, and members of the team who designed and built the new Continental GT, the cars were unveiled. Guests were then free to explore the cars – both inside and outside – at their leisure.
On the exterior, the new Bentley Continental GT may feel familiar but it shares nothing with its predecessor and features a new design language. The first hint that you see of this is the overall sleeker profile that comes courtesy of the steeper, faster, roofline. We can assure you that, whilst Continental GT is stunning in pictures, it is even more beautiful in person.
Along with the new roof line, the exterior has been further enhanced by redesigned front and rear bumpers as well as the front and rear lights from the EXP-10 prototype. When turned on, the rear lights look pleasingly like the afterburners of a jet fighter; something that feels very Bentley.
Continuing this trend of new, Continental GT is powered by an entirely new 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged W12 engine that produces a total of 626bhp. Thanks to this impressive new engine and four-wheel drive, the new Continental GT is capable of 0-60mph in just 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 207mph; an incredible feat when you consider that this is a luxury Grand Tourer and not a car focused solely on performance.
Ensuring that the new Continental GT truly is an astonishing Grand Tourer, painstaking work has gone into ensuring that the cabin is luxurious and comfortable. Taking a seat in the new Continental GT you are instantly struck by the incredible attention detail that can be found throughout, for example: each of the embroidered diamonds within the new diamond quilting feature over 700 stitches - together they add a total of two miles of extra thread to the cabin.
Technology also plays a large part when it comes to the interior. To begin, behind the steering wheel Bentley have replaced traditional instruments with their first ever virtual cockpit. Ensuring that this new high definition display is suitably Bentley, the designers were tasked with creating the digital dials as if they were physical instruments. The result is a clear and precise display that doesn’t just feel modern but still somehow feels traditionally Bentley.
There’s also a 12.3-inch touchscreen that sits in the centre of the vehicle. Offering access to the car’s infotainment system, various bits of vehicle information and many other features, the screen forms part of Bentley’s clever new rotating display. With the choice of three different faces, the touch of a button rotates the display to show either handcrafted wooden veneer that matches the rest of the dashboard, three stunning traditional dials or the touchscreen itself.
This is but a taste of what the all-new Bentley Continental GT has to offer, if you would like to learn more about this beautiful new car:
