After an announcement earlier this year that our industry leading Elite Technician Challenge would return in 2018, the finalists have descended on Sytner HQ to take part in the theory portion of the competition.
This year featuring Technicians from 10 of the prestigious manufacturers that we represent, the final has been split into two halves – theory and practical. Our 30 finalists – three from each brand – have been selected from over 300 entrants and are all competing for the chance to join Penske Racing at the Detroit Grand Prix later this year.
Split over two days, the first part of the final has seen our 30 Technicians visit Sytner HQ to complete an Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) accredited theory test that covers all aspects of the work that is carried out on a daily basis within the role.
A large contributor to each of our Technician’s final scores, the theory test asks questions about everything from regular vehicle servicing to vehicle problem solving.
In the second part of the final, which will take place next month, our 30 finalists will go head-to-head in the practical test. Designed to test their ability to identify diagnostic failures, our Technicians will be challenged against the clock by a real life vehicle from their respective brand.
Once time is called on the practical test, all of our Technicians will have to create a personal video presentation that lists and explains all of the faults that they have found on their vehicle.
The theory portion of the Elite Technician Challenge 2018 has proven to once again be a highly competitive start to the competition, with all of our finalists proving why they deserve their place in the final 30. Only one Technician from each brand can be crowned Elite Technician, so the competition is well and truly under way!
You’ll find a small selection of images from the theory test below but be sure to follow us on Facebook, Linkedin and Instagram to see more as we update them. We look forward to bringing you the practical test next month!
