As you may have seen from our social media channels, the Sytner Elite Technician Challenge 2019 is well underway; with the theory portion of the final taking place earlier this week. Take a look at the gallery below to see what happened during the tense couple of days.
Sponsored by Shell Helix Oils, Pirelli and CitNOW, the Sytner Elite Technician Challenge is an industry leading initiative that celebrates the skill and professionalism of Technicians from across the Group.
Now in its third year, the competition saw continued growth as nearly 500 Technicians entered the challenge and took the initial Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) accredited theory test. Marked and invigilated by the IMI, the scores from this test then saw just three finalists qualify from each of the 12 participating manufacturer partners.
The prize that these lucky few are competing for: the illustrious title of ‘Elite Technician’ and a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Detroit Grand Prix, hosted by Penske.
During their visit to Detroit, the winners will get to experience the Detroit Grand Prix, spend time with the Penske racing team and explore life in Detroit. You can get a taste in the video to the right.
Split over two days, our 36 finalists have now completed the theory portion of the final. Facing fierce competition on their respective day, all of our finalists took part in another IMI accredited theory test; this time, however, their mark counts towards their overall final score.
The theory exam is designed to test the finalists, against the clock, on everything from day-to-day servicing to unique vehicle problem solving questions. It’s certainly serves as a tough test of their knowledge. All theory scores will be determined by the IMI and not revealed until the end of the practical final.
Talking of the practical final; it’ll take place next month and will see our victors – one Technician from each franchise – crowned. During the practical day, all of our finalists will have to identify a number of diagnostic faults on a real life vehicle from their respective brand.
