At the moment, when you take a look at the stocklist on our website, you’ll notice that the first car you see is a stunning yellow McLaren Senna. Take a closer look, however, and you’ll notice that it’s not just any Senna, it’s the perfect tribute to the legendary Formula One driver with whom it shares its name. We recently spent some time at McLaren Manchester to see what this special car is all about.
As you probably know, the Senna sits in McLaren’s Ultimate Series and is one of the most extreme cars that McLaren currently make, blurring the lines between racing car and road car. Designed entirely with performance and aerodynamics in mind, it’s completely alien when you compare it to almost anything else on the road.
Boasting 798bhp and 590lb ft of torque from its 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, the Senna manages an incredible power to weight ratio of 659bhp per tonne, owing to its dry weight of just 1,198kg. The result is 0-62mph taken care of in just 2.8 seconds, 0-124mph in 6.8 seconds and a top speed north of 200mph. Senna might be downforce focused, but it’s no slouch.
Now, what makes this particular McLaren Senna so special? The colour scheme. Where every Senna shares its name with arguably one of the greatest Formula One drivers of all time, Ayrton Senna, this example takes it a step further, wearing the colours of Brazil.
Everything about this Senna has been specially chosen to represent Ayrton, with the exterior Volcano Yellow complemented by Laurel Green brake calipers, Laurel Green seats and countless signatures from the man himself, inside and out. It’s a stunning car to share a room with.
Where the above are fairly large statement pieces, it’s the little details that really make this car. On the exterior it’s things like the Volcano Yellow on the wheel centre caps and the outline of the end plates on that massive rear wing. Then, you open up those outrageous wing doors and jump into the driver’s seat. It’s the same story inside, with the steering wheel centre marking finished in yellow and green and the actuators on the doors in Laurel Green.
Don’t get us wrong, every Senna is special, and not just because they’re all specced and personalised through McLaren Special Operations (MSO), there’s just something about one finished in these colours that make it feel extra special. It just feels, right. One thing we can’t decide is whether or not it’s a coincidence that the car looks so good in these colours or whether it was just meant to be.
