The Aston Martin DB5, that was driven by Sean Connery in Goldfinger, is arguably one of the most recognisable Bond cars of all-time. Now, thanks to Aston Martin Works and EON Productions, 25 very lucky individuals will have the chance to secure their very own Bond-inspired DB5 complete with gadgets.
That’s right, Aston Martin are building 25 very special Aston Martin DB5s that are directly based upon the car that appeared in the Goldfinger movie. Fittingly named the ‘Goldfinger DB5 Continuation’, these very special cars are continuation models unlike anything else – receiving full backing from both Aston Martin and EON Productions (the company that creates the James Bond films).
Strictly limited to a 25 car production run, each Goldfinger DB5 will be created at Aston Martin Works in Newport Pagnell with the help of Oscar award-winning special effects expert, Chris Corbould OBE.
As of yet, Aston Martin haven’t revealed the full list of gadgets that have been developed, but they have noted that it’ll include “functioning gadgets such as revolving number plates and more”. We’re very excited to find out what that ‘more’ comprises of.
Talking of the new continuation car, Andy Palmer, Aston Martin President and CEO, said:
“The connection between Aston Martin and James Bond is something of which we are very proud and it is remarkable that the DB5 remains the definitive James Bond car after so many years. To own an Aston Martin has long been an aspiration for James Bond fans, but to own a Silver Birch DB5, complete with gadgets and built to the highest standards in the very same factory as the original James Bond cars? Well, that is surely the ultimate collectors’ fantasy”.
Aside from James Bond inspired gadgets and the iconic Silver Birch paint, Aston Martin say that they will be making ‘sympathetic modifications’ to the DB5, so you can expect that each of the Goldfinger DB5 cars will feature a similar 4.0-litre straight-six to the original but with tweaks for reliability; however, these details are yet to be officially announced.
Sadly, due to the James Bond style gadgetry, none of the 25 Goldfinger DB5 Continuation cars will be road legal. Regardless, we’re sure that they’d make a fantastic addition to any car collection – who doesn’t want to own a James Bond gadget laden DB5?
The cars are set to be delivered to the lucky 25 customers in 2020, so we’ll be sure to keep you updated as more information begins to appear. In the meantime, we’d like to know which gadgets you’d like to see on the new Goldfinger DB5 Continuation cars – let us know on Facebook, Linkedin or Instagram.
