Back in October of last year, Lamborghini teased us about a very special, track-only, hypercar that would arrive later in 2020. Today is that day. Ladies and gentlemen, this incredible looking, 820bhp V12 wielding hypercar, is the Lamborghini Essenza SCV12.
Were you worried that Lamborghini had started making cars that weren’t quite as crazy as those of their formative years? Well, the Essenza SCV12 is exactly what the doctor ordered. This limited edition model is strictly for track use and, as such, boasts an aerodynamic design and race car born tech that has come directly from Lamborghini Squadra Corse.
Before we get into that design, however, we’re going to start with the engine that sits towards the rear of the car. Power comes from a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 that produces ‘at least’ 820bhp; making it the most powerful V12 that Lamborghini have ever created. Whilst there aren’t any performance stats to go with the power figure, we expect that calling the Essenza SCV12 ‘fast’ would be an understatement.
That’s because the entire car is based on Lamborghini’s new generation carbon fibre monocoque chassis. Much like many of the track specials that we’ve seen recently, the monocoque is incredibly lightweight but still remains so strong that it complies with FIA prototype regulations without the need for a roll cage.
In true racing car fashion, the V12 is nestled inside the monocoque with the push-rod rear suspension bolted directly to the sequential six-speed gearbox. All of the 800 plus horsepower is fed through that gearbox directly to the rear wheels (unlike Lamborghini’s other V12 supercars, the Essenza SCV12 isn’t four-wheel drive).
Interestingly, unlike other race car specials that we see from other brands, Lamborghini have designed the exterior of the Essenza SCV12 with pit stops in mind, making the whole thing out of just three elements so that bodywork is quick and easy to change. There’s also plenty of downforce on offer, with the adjustable rear wing, fins and splitters creating 1,200kg of downforce at 155mph.
If you are lucky enough to secure one of the 40 Essenza SCV12s, you don’t just get a car … you also get a garage, tuition from Emanuele Pirro and Marco Mapelli and access to the Squadra Corse Drivers Lab. The aim being that those programs can ensure you get the most out of your outrageous Lamborghini racing car at all times.
Lamborghini say that the Essenza SCV12 is the “ultimate expression of the V12” and we can’t help but agree. What do you think of this incredible new limited edition Lamborghini? Let us know your thoughts on Facebook, Linkedin and Instagram.
