Unveiled at the first stop of last year's ‘SEAT on Tour’ roadshow in Oslo – often considered the electric vehicle capital of Europe – the new SEAT Mii electric is set to hit the market very soon and will replace all Mii versions driven by an internal combustion engine.
That’s right, the SEAT Mii will officially be an electric-only model. That’ll make the SEAT Mii electric the brand’s first solely electric model, paving the way after the recent announcement that SEAT will be offering six electrified vehicles by 2021. When you think about it, granting a small and nippy city car the immediacy of electric power certainly makes sense.
What’s possibly most exciting about the new SEAT Mii electric is that it’s one of the first all-electric offerings that comes at almost the same price as a traditionally powered city car; opening up the electric car market to a wider audience and growing the accessibility of electric life.
Ideal for the city, the SEAT Mii electric will offer a range of around 161.5 miles thanks to a 36.8kWh battery. Ensuring fast charging times, the SEAT Mii electric will be able to charge to 80% in four hours from a 7.2kW wallbox or to 80% in just one hour from a 40kW rapid charger.
Power comes from a 61kW electric motor – 83hp in old money – and is fed through a single-speed transmission. The new electric drivetrain will mean 212nm of torque (156lb ft), a 0-31mph sprint of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 81mph – all of which are perfect for city life.
Exterior styling remains familiar but enjoys the addition of 16in alloy wheels and illuminated badging on the back and sides. The interior has seen more developments and now includes a redesigned dashboard, heated performance seats and leather adorning the steering wheel, handbrake and gear selector.
Standard kit will now include various safety devices such as traffic sign recognition, parking sensors and lane departure warning, to name but a few.
Owing to the connected nature of electric vehicles, the SEAT Mii electric will be the first model from the brand to benefit from SEAT’s new connected smartphone app that allows the driver to unlock the car, adjust climate control settings and check various aspects of the car’s status whilst not being with the car.
