Usually, when a new car comes out, we bring you a fairly lengthy article explaining everything that’s new. When it comes to Jaguar’s new F-Type, however, we thought that pictures probably speak louder than words. Stunning, isn’t it? Take a look through the below to learn everything you need to know about Jaguar’s new sports car.
Let’s start with the most obvious of changes: styling. The previous generations of the Jaguar F-Type have all been beautiful cars, perfectly toeing the line between sportiness and elegance whilst still remaining understated yet exciting. This new F-Type is the first piece of work that we’ve seen from Jaguar’s new Design Director, Julian Thomson … we’d say that he’s smashed it.
As you’ll notice, the silhouette has remained similar to what we’re used to but the details have changed – that means new headlights, a longer bonnet, larger grille, redesigned side vents and new rear lights. The aim was to bring a bit more aggression to the F-Type whilst maintaining the feeling of class that the previous F-Type was synonymous with.
Underneath, everything remains largely the same as the previous generation (depending on spec) but there are big changes when it comes to engines. As with the outgoing generation, the base engine will remain as the brilliant 300PS (296hp) turbocharged four-cylinder engine but, where the range used to progress to the V6 and V6 S, the second step in the new F-Type range will be a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 that offers 450PS (444hp) and 428lb ft of torque.
The top of the range – the F-Type R – will also get a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 but with 575PS (567hp) and 516lb ft of torque … the same figures as the old SVR. The R will also get an uprated chassis, new springs, new dampers, new anti-roll bars and the option of carbon ceramic brakes. All fantastic news.
Regardless of engine, all F-Type variants will receive the same upgraded version of Jaguar’s eight-speed automatic gearbox as the previous generation. The four-cylinder variant will be offered as rear-wheel drive only, the mid-range V8 as rear- or all-wheel drive and the R with all-wheel drive only.
The new F-Type’s interior has also undergone a redesign – more subtle than the exterior – and now features a fully digital dash, the latest high-definition Touch Pro infotainment system (which offers software-over-air updates, Spotify and Android Auto) and redesigned Sport or Performance seats; the latter coming as standard in the R variant.
