Halifax Volkswagen will walk 101 miles and then 101 more!

This week, Nick Giddings, Head of Business at Halifax Volkswagen will be arming himself with walking boots, waterproofs, plasters and sun cream, all in aid of Brain Tumour Research.

Nicks story begins in 2015 when his family were devastated to discover that his wife had been diagnosed with a brain Tumour. Since then, Charlotte has undergone 2 operations to remove the tumour and the family have done what they can to raise the much needed funding for research into Brain Tumours.

On Thursday 29th June, Nick and three friends will begin walking from Southport to Clayton West (Near Huddersfield) along the Trans Pennine Trail in the hope of raising £1,500. The route takes them from Southport, past Liverpool, Widnes, Warrington and Manchester before climbing the Pennines and descending into Clayton West. The team are aiming to complete the 101 mile walk in three and a half days.

Upon arrival at Clayton West Cricket Club on Sunday 2nd July, Charlotte has organised a fund raising family day. The fate will include stalls, raffle's, bouncy castle etc, with the aim of raising further funds for the charity. Nick aim's to be back at Clayton West Cricket Club at circa 3pm (weather and health permitting!).

Back at Halifax Volkswagen, Nick has arranged the delivery of a treadmill allowing the team at Halifax to go head to head in a “Beat The Boss” challenge during the 3 and a half days. The aim, of course is to attempt to walk further than the 101 miles, we suspect 102 miles will be their target! Our Volkswagen centre will also be holding a bake sale during the event, a little sugar boost should see the team through!

Nick and the team will be wearing Brain Tumour Awareness T-Shirts during their walk, so should you see them, please give them a wave, a cheer, or post a selfie perhaps on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/sytnervolkswagen/

All associated costs regarding running the event including accommodation en-route have been funded by the walkers, so every pound will go straight to the charity…..

If you would like to support Nick and the the team, their Just Giving page can be found here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/nicholas-giddings

Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research is allocated to this disease. We are the only national charity in the UK funding sustainable and continuous research into brain tumours. www.braintumourresearch.org
