ID. ROOMZZ premieres at Auto Shanghai

Volkswagen's pure-electric SUV concept model, The ID. ROOMZZ, has made its first public appearance at Auto Shanghai

The ID. ROOMZZ is the latest car in Volkswagen's all-electric ID. range and is expected to be launched on the Chinese market in 2021, with it having up to seven seats. Based on a new variant of the modular electric platform (MEB), the ID. ROOMZZ is slightly larger than a Touareg and features exciting futuristic styling.

Its highlights include an illuminated Volkswagen badge, hinge-sliding doors and cameras in the place of door mirrors. The rear of the vehicle has a full- width light band that can be customised through a smartphone app. Inside, the seats have been made using a new material called ‘Apple-Skin™,’ a sustainable material made with residual matter from apple juice production but with the same appearance as artificial leather.

The digitised steering wheel can retract into the dashboard when autonomous driving capabilities come into fruition in the future. The ID. ROOMZZ also has a 13.8-inch digital display and an augmented reality head-up display. Volkswagen have quoted a 0-62 mph time of 6.6 seconds, with it using two electric motors, one powering each axel, producing a total of 306 PS. It can be driven solely by the rear wheels or by all four.

The range of the ID. ROOMZZ is about 280 miles on the WLTP test cycle. An 80-per-cent battery charge is quoted to take approximately 30 minutes. Impressive.
