On Wednesday 9th May at the annual GTI meeting in Wörthersee, Austria, we saw the exciting reveal of the new Golf GTI TCR model.
The road version of the racing car will have a top speed of 164mph, making it the fastest GTI of the model range. The 290PS model has a seven-speed DSG gearbox, showcasing differential and individual design.
The new performance hatchback will be restricted to 155mph, as standard but the electronic Vmax limiter can be removed to match the 164mph top speed.
The standard model has Belvedere 18-inch alloys, with 19-inch alloy wheels also available. It boasts a high-performance braking system with perforated discs that decelerate the production car just as smoothly and effortlessly as on the TCR racing car. The top Golf GTI model features two extra radiators to ensure there’s ample cooling for the car’s high engine performance.
The car’s sporty look and feel is accentuated by the newly-designed bumper with a sharply contoured front spoiler. The exterior has a revised panel attachment on the side which continues to the rear, joining a diffuser and the exhaust system tailpipes.
The ‘TCR’ lettering can be modified to have an additional decoration in the GTI honeycomb design and the stainless steel sill panel trim is personalised with a stylish red illuminated element.
The superior sport seats, door inserts and gear stick cover are finished with newly-designed microfibre covers. The centre of the seats are in a contrasting bold flash red, which is the bridge to the red contrasting stitching on the sports steering wheel.
It’s not yet confirmed whether this concept car will become a production model in the UK, stay tuned to find out more...
