The Three Peak Challenge in support of Alder Hey Children's hospital

In February 2018, Mark Welding, our Front of House Manager at Warrington Volkswagen found out some devastating news. Sadly his nephew Mason, 9 years old, had been diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Hodgkin lymphoma is a cancer that develops in the lymphatic system, the network of vessels and glands that spread throughout your body.

The diagnosis was discovered through Alder Hey Children’s hospital after the families’ persistence for a second opinion. Within a very short period of time they had carried out all the tests to determine the diagnosis and had discussed a treatment plan for Mason.

Mason is responding well to his treatment but there’s still a long way for him to go, with his family wanting to do all they can to help.

With this is mind, Mark and 15 other family members are to take on the 3 Peaks National Challenge on June 16th, raising money for Alder Hey Children’s hospital and Clic Sargent (Young Lives vs Cancer). Their mission is to climb three of the biggest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales -Snowden, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis.

Covering a total of 3408 metres in 24 hours, it’s set to really push them to their limits.

Clic Sargent work alongside Alder Hey to offer families support and guidance when dealing with children and young lives sadly affected by cancer, with the family wanting to show their eternal gratitude.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up not only to raise funds for their chosen charities but to also raise awareness and encourage other families to follow their instinct and always seek a second opinion.
