Design

The Evoque is underpinned by the same adventure-focused chassis that you’d find underneath the full-size Range Rover. It’s just all on a slightly smaller scale.

Evoque models are available with four-wheel-drive, and are surprisingly good off road with decent wading depths helping to make this compact SUV more capable in difficult conditions than you might expect. You might notice the Evoque’s short overhangs - these help with approach and departure angles. But the Evoque is a car just as well-suited to the city, courtesy of its fashion-led design.

The outside of the Evoque takes the classic Range Rover aesthetic and applies it to a smaller canvas. You’ve got the slim, eye-catching headlights, while around the back slim LED units give this junior Range Rover a fantastic signature.

You might notice that the Evoque has a split-roof design, and that has been a hallmark since the car’s inception. A number of eye-catching colours are available too and you can contrast these with a number of finisher options. The rose gold detailing in particular gives this Range Rover an upmarket finish.

Tech

The new Evoque is more tech-focused than ever. As with other cars within the JLR stable, the Evoque uses the latest Pivi Pro system which gives quick access to media and navigation functions via a high-definition central screen. The 11.4-inch display is curved to make it even more intuitive to use.

Amazon’s Alexa service is included on the new Evoque as well, giving you the ability to make changes within the car by voice command alone. The Evoque is also kept fully up to date via over-the-air updates to ensure that it’s as sharp on the technology front as it is to look at.

Engines & Performance

Land Rover offers a great range of engines on the Evoque, including petrol, diesel and a plug-in hybrid that we’ll cover in a separate section. 

If you’d like a petrol, there’s the P200 or P250, both of which use 2.0-litre engines producing 197bhp and 246bhp respectively. Each is four-wheel-drive and uses a nine-speed automatic gearbox. The P250 offers the best performance outside of the plug-in hybrid, with 0-60mph being dispatched in seven seconds. 

As for diesel, the range begins with the 163bhp D165. You can even have it with a manual gearbox, which is front-wheel-drive, whereas with an automatic transmission, it is sold with four-wheel-drive. With a claimed 46.7mpg, it’s the most efficient non-plug-in hybrid Evoque available. Above this is the D200 – a 197bhp 2.0-litre diesel – which is still capable of a claimed 44mpg.
