Design

The Discovery Sport’s design has always focused around usability. As an SUV, it’s got the high ride height that you’d expect and this gives a great view of the road ahead. With decent wheel travel and JLR’s clever off-road systems working hard underneath, the Discovery Sport is still a car that can cut it with the best of them, when conditions are less favourable.

Recent changes have meant that the Discovery Sport is more electrified than ever as well. Regardless of which engine choice you opt for there’s some form of electric assistance included, be that mild- or plug-in hybrid. It all helps to make the Discovery Sport not only more responsive to drive, but more efficient.

Discovery Sport - Exterior1

The Discovery Sport’s design has evolved over time to become a more premium-looking model. A recent update has made it more noticeable than ever, adding in body-coloured lower sills on Sport S-specification cars, as well as silver skid plates for that go-anywhere aesthetic.

Discovery Sport - Exterior2

You’ll find a sportier approach taken on Dynamic models, as they feature a contrast roof and plenty of gloss black accents in areas such as the grille, lower body sills and lower bumpers. There are many alloy wheel options to choose from, with highlights being the 19-inch diamond-turn versions which look particularly stylish.

Tech

If you’re after plenty of technology then you’ve come to the right place. The latest Discovery Sport possesses numerous features designed to make everyday life a little easier. It’s one of the latest JLR cars to benefit from the Pivi Pro infotainment system which is accessed via a smart 11.4-inch curved glass touchscreen. It’s here that you’ll access all of your must-have functions and it’s been made even simpler with permanently accessible sidebars that give quick access to those commonly used features such as media and navigation.

Plus, the Discovery Sport comes with Amazon Alexa voice control and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Amazon’s Alexa system makes it easy to access a wealth of in-car features simply via voice command, from changing a radio station to adding a new navigation destination.

Engines & Performance

The Discovery Sport is available with the kind of strong and refined engines that you’d expect from a premium SUV. When it comes to petrol options, you’ve got the P250 which uses JLR’s latest Ingenium system for the best possible performance and efficiency. It also incorporates mild-hybrid technology, which helps it to achieve up to 30.7mpg combined and CO2 emissions of 209g/km. In terms of acceleration, it can hit 0-60mph in 7.3 seconds.

If you’d rather have a diesel, then there’s the efficient D200 to take care of things. A 2.0-litre four-cylinder, it too has mild-hybrid technology and this helps it to deliver up to 42.7mpg combined and impressively low CO2 emissions of just 173g/km. It’s also able to tow up to 2,500kg.

Plug-in Hybrid

Of course, things wouldn’t be complete without a plug-in hybrid. The P300e combines a three-cylinder 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and battery for rock-bottom CO2 emissions of just 34g/km and fuel economy of up to 183mpg when the batteries are fully charged.

And speaking of batteries, keep them fully topped up and you’ll be able to drive the P300e for up to 37 miles on electric-only power. For around-town driving, it’s hard to beat.

The P300e brings incredible performance, as fully charged, the P300e will go from 0 to 60mph in just 6.2 seconds - making it the quickest Discovery Sport available - while it’ll manage a top speed of 130mph.

In terms of charge times, it’ll take just over two hours to fully top up this hybrid’s batteries via a 7kW home charger, or 30 minutes if you’re using a more powerful 50kW charger.
