Key Features

New four-cylinder engine with extra power.

The spirited performance of the new four-cylinder engine in the BMW X1 M35i xDrive is complemented by a captivating sound produced by the M-specific exhaust system. Distinguishing itself as the first performance model from BMW M GmbH, this vehicle features two pairs of twin tailpipes that elegantly channel the exhaust gases. Positioned seamlessly on both sides of the rear apron, these twin tailpipes have long been a distinctive hallmark of high-performance models from BMW M and are now proudly embraced by the most potent member of the compact SAV lineup.

Furthermore, the engine is equipped with advanced features including VANOS variable camshaft timing with improved oil supply for the actuator, as well as VALVETRONIC fully variable valve timing. With this technology, the engine delivers its peak power output between 5,750 and 6,500 rpm, while a maximum torque of 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) is available from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm.

Seven-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch and M Sport Boost.

The new BMW X1 M35i xDrive features a seven-speed Steptronic transmission that delivers incredibly precise and swift gear shifts. Enabling manual control, shift paddles located on the steering wheel allow the driver to intervene swiftly during the gear selection process.

For those seeking exceptional bursts of speed, the M Sport Boost function is available. By engaging this function, activated by holding the left-hand shift paddle for a minimum of one second, all powertrain and chassis systems are instantly switched to their sportiest settings.

Supreme traction and agility: BMW xDrive all-wheel drive, mechanical limited-slip differential at the front axle.

The BMW X1 M35i xDrive is equipped with the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system, ensuring optimal power distribution between the front and rear wheels based on the driving situation. This system is seamlessly integrated with the chassis control technology, constantly adapting to the road conditions. With the assistance of an electro-hydraulically controlled hang-on clutch, the drive torque can be swiftly directed to the rear wheels within milliseconds, enhancing traction, stability, and the dynamic performance that BMW is renowned for.

To further enhance performance, the all-wheel-drive system works in conjunction with a mechanical limited-slip differential integrated into the seven-speed Steptronic transmission. This differential effectively reduces speed differences between the front wheels. With a locking factor of up to 26 percent, it enhances traction on challenging surfaces or in unfavourable weather conditions, while also improving agility and handling dynamics during high-speed cornering maneuvers.

Adaptive M suspension and sport steering as standard.

The new BMW X1 M35i xDrive comes with adaptive M suspension as part of its standard specification. This suspension system features mechanically controlled adjustable dampers that are selectively tuned for both agility and long-distance comfort. To ensure a smooth ride, additional valves actively work on the rebound side of the dampers, effectively reducing pressure peaks. This results in a comfortable response when encountering minor road imperfections, while still providing sporty damper characteristics during dynamic driving situations.

Furthermore, the M-specific chassis technology on the performance model brings a lowered ride height of 15 millimeters (compared to other BMW X1 variants), further enhancing its sporty stance and handling. The standard sport steering system combines Servotronic speed-sensitive power assistance with a highly direct rack ratio, delivering precise and responsive steering control.
