Lucy Dent, Bodyshop Apprentice at Sytner Sheffield answers our Women In Business questions.
How long have you worked for Sytner BMW/MINI? I have worked for Sytner for 3 years this month.
How long have you been in your current role? 3 Years.
What is your favourite part about your current role? My favourite part of my current role is the opportunities, I am currently on with a bonnet for the fareclà bonnet painting competition. I also love how every job is different it could be the colour or the repair that needs to be fixed.
What motivates you in the morning? I am a very passionate person in general and I also put this into every job I complete. I love cars and working on them and I put this passion into every day.
Three words to describe yourself? Passionate, motivated and open minded
What is your greatest achievement? I just recently won the Apprentice paint technician of the year awards from 2020 this is hosted by the Bodyshop magazine. I was utterly shocked! But so happy and overwhelmed. I have never had any self belief and this has helped me believe in my self so much more!
What advice would you give to someone aspiring to be in your role? I would tell them to give it all they have and take any opportunity that they come across! You have to take anything you can because who knows what you could achieve from it. Don’t ever look back and think what if? Just do it.
Top tip for how you organise your days? Take every day as it comes is the way I go through life.
Top tip for working in the automotive industry? Don’t take anything to heart! This is a big one, in my role things can go wrong so easily but don’t take it home with you, walk away and try again tomorrow. Working with the lads for me has always been something that came natural. I have gained a great set of friends well I’d say more family! They’re always there to help you through the bad days and there for you even on the good days! Any advice you need they will give you and they will always guide you through any problems.
