Design

Audi has upgraded its e-tron Sportback, and in the process the Q8’s name is being used. Though not based on the regular petrol and diesel Q8, it reflects the model’s upmarket positioning, sitting at the top of its electric SUV line-up, and is designed accordingly.

Audi has also made a number of upgrades to the Q8 e-tron’s Sportback design as part of this update, with some main additions including a new 2D version of Audi’s ‘four rings’ logo, as well as a reprofiled front and rear end, and various new alloy wheel and colour options to choose from.

Exterior-Front

The regular Q8 e-tron is already a fantastic-looking car, but the Sportback really takes things up another level. Boasting a lower, sleeker stance than the regular SUV, the tapered roofline also adds to the elegant look of it and gives the Sportback a particularly eye-catching and premium-looking silhouette.

Exterior-Rear

The broad choice of trim levels also gives plenty of possibility to choose the Q8 Sportback e-tron that works for you, from more subtle Sport versions through to the darkened Black Edition, which gets large black alloy wheels and a full gloss black styling kit.

Tech

The Q8 Sportback e-tron is available with all of Audi’s current technology, with a particularly modern touch being its ‘virtual’ door mirrors, which see small cameras in place of traditional door mirrors, while an extended head-up display is also available on Vorsprung models.

A raft of driver assistance packages is also offered as an option, or as standard on the Vorsprung. The Tour Package2 is a real highlight, adding elements like adaptive cruise control, lane assist and swerve assist that can help steer you out of danger on the road, all helping to prevent collisions.

Engines & Performance

Audi offers two powertrains on the Q8 Sportback e-tron, the 50 e-tron quattro and 55 e-tron quattro, with both being upgraded as part of the latest update and receiving four-wheel-drive coming as standard.

Starting with the 50 e-tron, this uses a 95kWh battery (of which 89kWh is usable), and twin electric motors producing up to 335bhp and 664Nm of torque. Above this, the 55 e-tron packs a larger 114kWh battery (with a usable capacity of 106kWh), while its more powerful electric motors produce 402bhp and 664Nm of torque in boost mode.

Statistics

If range is a priority, the 55 e-tron is the version to go for, with its larger battery allowing for a claimed range of 330-344 miles*. Accelerating from 0-60mph takes 5.4 seconds*, and it’s able to reach a maximum speed of 124mph*.

The ‘50 e-tron’ model isn’t too far behind, however, with Audi claiming a range of 280 to 292 miles*. Accelerating from 0-60mph takes 5.8 seconds*, with this model also having a 124mph* top speed.

The Q8 Sportback e-tron can be DC rapid charged at up to 170kW, with a 10 to 80 per cent rapid charge taking as little as 31 minutes.

1Range dependent on trim and optional equipment. All vehicles are tested according to WLTP technical procedures. Figures shown are official test values for comparability purposes; only compare fuel consumption, CO2 and electric range figures with other vehicles tested to the same technical procedures. These figures may not reflect real life driving results, which will depend upon a number of factors including but not limited to factory fitted options, accessories fitted (post-registration), variations in weather, road and traffic conditions, individual driving styles, vehicle load, vehicle condition, use of systems like climate control (and, for battery electric vehicles, the starting charge, age and conditions of the battery). Figures for battery electric vehicles were obtained after the battery had been fully charged. Battery electric vehicles require mains electricity for charging. Zero emissions while driving. Figures quoted are subject to change due to ongoing approvals/changes and figures may include options not available in the UK. Please consult your local Sytner Audi Centre for further information. Data correct in July 2023. Lithium-ion batteries, of the type used in most electric vehicles (including Audi electric vehicles) have a restricted lifespan. Battery capacity will reduce over time, with use and charging. Reduction in battery capacity will affect the performance of the vehicle, including the range achievable, and may impact resale value. New car performance figures (including battery capacity and range) may be provided for the purposes of comparison between vehicles. You should not rely on new car performance figures (including battery capacity and range), in relation to used vehicles with older batteries, as they will not reflect used vehicle performance in the real world. 2Assistance feature only. Drivers must pay attention and retain control. System limits and operational requirements apply. See manual for details.

3Timings based on a 10 to 80% charge using an ultra-rapid DC public charge station at the vehicle’s maximum charging capability. Ultra rapid charging stations are still limited in the UK, with numbers planned to increase. Actual charging times will vary depending on various factors, including the selected vehicle (and battery option, if available), the type of charger used, the level of charge in the battery, the age type, condition and temperature of the charger and the battery, the power supply, ambient temperature at the point of use and other environmental factors. Charging times will also be affected by the charging curve (for example, once charging passes 80%, charging will slow to protect the battery's longevity) and will be longer if battery temperature activates safeguarding technology.
