The Audi SQ5 is designed to offer loads of family-friendly space as well as the kind of pace that you might expect from a hot hatch. Audi’s ‘S’ range of performance vehicles all follow that same ethos and the SQ5, as one of the first SUVs to wear that legendary letter, really set the benchmark for future models.
Today’s SQ5 is more refined than ever, but it also utilises some of Audi’s latest technology, too. Plus, because it’s an ‘S’ model, it also benefits from Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system which provides better traction and improved grip on wet and slippery surfaces and it’s all included in the SQ5’s price, too.
The exterior look of each Audi SQ5 for sale is classy and refined. A recent redesign in 2020 brought a quad exhaust design which hints towards the SQ5’s underlying performance, while a matte silver trim piece at the rear adds some extra flourish. Up front, Audi’s large grille stands loud and proud, while redesigned air intakes sit at either side. You’ve got new headlights which incorporate Matrix technology as standard on all models, too.
There are also some subtle badges at the front and rear, which help to visually differentiate the SQ5 from the rest of the Q5 range.
The SQ5 benefits from some of Audi’s latest equipment and it’s included in all specifications, too. The clever Virtual Cockpit is one of the most notable additions, bringing a high-definition screen where you’d usually expect to find the conventional dials. They’re configurable, too, so you can change them to display different types of information. For instance, you can display the track you’re currently listening to, as well as any album art.
Then, you’ve got a 10.1-inch high-definition infotainment display in the middle of the dashboard. It’s here that you’ll access the onboard satellite navigation system and media functions. It’s touch-sensitive, too, and it’ll even recognise your handwriting to make inputting addresses even easier.
There’s just one engine available on the SQ5, but it’s a seriously impressive unit. You’ll find a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 diesel engine under the bonnet, which manages to bring a great combination of performance and efficiency. All the engine’s power is sent to all four wheels via Audi’s quattro system and an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The engine is also equipped with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system which helps to lower emissions and boost fuel efficiency. It integrates a belter alternator with a lithium-ion battery which can harness the energy usually lost when slowing down and use it to smooth out the gaps in torque. This makes acceleration in the SQ5 even more linear and responsive. Plus, it allows the SQ5 to coast with the engine switched off for up to 40 seconds, reducing fuel use even further.
Some seriously impressive figures accompany the SQ5. For instance, this family SUV will manage the 0-60mph sprint in just 4.9 seconds*, while it will carry on to a top speed of 155mph*. Some 700Nm of torque also gives the SQ5 some real in-gear shove which can be particularly useful when you need to overtake a vehicle or gain speed when joining a motorway.
Yet despite this performance, the SQ5 should still return between 33.6 and 34.9mpg*, while CO2 emissions stand at between 212-220g/km*, depending on specification. This impressive efficiency means that there are very few drawbacks to this performance model and will no doubt make it an appealing choice to those who want a car that can tick all of the boxes.

All vehicles are tested according to WLTP technical procedures. Figures shown are for comparability purposes; only compare fuel consumption, CO2 and equivalent electric range figures with other vehicles tested to the same technical procedures. These figures may not reflect real life driving results, which will depend upon a number of factors including the accessories fitted (post-registration), variations in weather, driving styles, vehicle load (and, for battery electric vehicles, the starting charge of the battery).
